Before starting a task, take a few moments to inspect your PPE:

✔️ Confirm it is the correct PPE for the task
✔️ Replace damaged or worn-out equipment

PPE is your last line of defense. A quick inspection before use can help ensure it is ready when you need it.

📖 Safety Term of the Month: Near Miss

A near miss is an unplanned event that could have resulted in an injury, illness, property damage, or other loss—but did not.

While no one may have been hurt, near misses provide valuable insight into potential hazards and weaknesses in workplace processes.

The most important part of a near miss is what happens next: learning from it.

By reporting and reviewing near misses, organizations can:

✔️ Identify hazards before they result in an incident
✔️ Improve safe work procedures and controls
✔️ Share lessons learned with the team
✔️ Prevent similar situations from happening again

A near miss is a warning sign and an opportunity to make improvements before someone gets hurt.

Don’t ignore a near miss—learn from it.

Being in the line of fire means being in a position where you could be struck, caught, or exposed to unexpected movement or stored energy.

Many workplace incidents happen when workers are too close to hazards or don't recognize the potential for movement.

Before starting a task, ask yourself:

✔️ Could something move unexpectedly?
✔️ Am I in the path of equipment, materials, or stored energy?
✔️ Are there pinch points or crush hazards nearby?
✔️ Do I have the right controls in place before starting?

A few seconds spent identifying your position and surroundings can prevent serious incidents.

Stay aware. Stay positioned safely. Look out for yourself and your team.
