***ANNOUNCEMENT***

We'd like to formally introduce our new Head Coach and Program Director - Matthew Carss. We are beyond excited to welcome Matt to Fort McMurray and to our team. Please see below for a few words from Matt:

"I grew up ski racing with Skimeisters at Fortress Mountain. Looking back, what I remember most isn't the results, it's the coaches. They challenged us, made us better skiers and made us want to be at the hill every weekend. Those experiences inspired me to become a coach, and over the past 20-plus years I've had the privilege of coaching with Sunshine Alpine Racers, Whitewater Ski Team and the Alberta Ski Cross Team, working with athletes from their first races through U16, FIS and beyond. I've also worked with provincial teams and have coached athletes who have gone on to the National Team and the World Cup.

I believe the best racers are the ones who genuinely love skiing. Throughout my coaching career, I've worked to create a culture where athletes are excited to get on snow, not just race. We spend time free skiing, skiing powder, exploring the mountain, hitting the terrain park and becoming well-rounded skiers.

One of the things I enjoy most about coaching is working with other coaches. Sharing ideas, learning from each other and building a strong coaching team creates a better experience for every athlete in the program.

When I'm not on snow, you'll usually find me in the mountains with my wife and our horses, exploring the backcountry or working as a carpenter.

I'm excited to join the Fort McMurray Ski Team and become part of the club. I look forward to getting to know the athletes, families, coaches and volunteers, and helping build a program where kids improve, have fun and can't wait to get back on snow each weekend."
