And more promotions. Great to see the huge class sizes and consistent training. Best way to learn something is to do it lots.

It’s been a busy summer both in and off the mats. It’s great to see so many people getting in and training during the summer. Ryan and Sienna are both quicker learners. Sienna picked up her first after a long absence. Ryan is well on his way to blue belt picking up his third. Having some email issues. If you’ve reached out and I haven’t gotten back to you I apologize. If you’re interested in checking us out, just come in for a class. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6pm in the Max Turyk rec center

gets her blue belt!!!! Kim is now Fernie Bjj’s second blue belt. Kim has shown up week after week to train with men that outweigh her by 100 pounds. Jiu jitsu is not easy. It’s even harder when you’re small and it’s even harder when everyone is nearly twice your size and twice as strong. This speaks volumes about Kim and Fernie Bjj. I’ll keep saying it. I’m just helping you guys understand jiu jitsu. You guys are the ones teaching each other. I couldn’t be happier. Congrats Kim

Fernie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is going into its 4th year. The martial arts are full of people we call sensei, grandmaster, master, professor etc. these are people who have dedicated themselves to their art and teaching it. In the martial arts world they are put on a pedestal and looked up to. Respect is definitely warranted but they are not really who we learn from. We learn from each other. Everyone contributes to the advancement of knowledge We learn from our peers and the culture we create training with each other. I’ve been doing this a long time. I certainly layout a path but you guys are the ones that help each other get better. Learning is transferred through training and relationships. I never knew how much I didn’t know about jiu jitsu until I started teaching it. The first lesson I learned was it’s not me it’s you. Like I said everyone helps everyone get better. These six people all received promotions tonight. They have been putting consistent hard work to improve their jiu jitsu but I’ve watched each one of them over and over again helping their peers to improve. I am immensely proud of their journey and commitment to helping me build the jiu jitsu community in Fernie. There aren’t many things in Iife that we voluntarily do that are as hard as jiu jitsu. Keep up the good work guys!!
