south_east_viragos The viragos are pleased to announce the captains for the 2026 season. Miaya who has been with the team for 5 season and is the back bone of the defence. Morgan has been a force on the offensive side of the ball. Carly our all around utility player who leads from both sides of the ball. With this strong leadership core we know we will see great things this season.

Maybe she’s fast. Maybe she’s strong. Maybe she’s never considered herself an athlete at all.

There is a place for her in football.

The Southeast Viragos are welcoming new players for both of our female tackle football programs:

🟢 Junior Viragos — Grades 5–8
🟢 Senior Viragos — Grades 8–12

One of the biggest things we hear is: “Football seems scary.” We understand. Trying any new sport can feel intimidating—especially one that many girls have grown up thinking was only for boys.

But female football is growing, and you don’t have to look a certain way or have a certain body type to belong on a football field.

Football needs speed, strength, size, quickness, toughness, intelligence, leadership and determination. Different positions require different abilities, which means every athlete can bring something valuable to the team.

Safety and proper technique are a major part of what we teach. Players learn how to wear their equipment correctly, how to block and tackle with proper technique, and how to play confidently within a structured, coached environment.

And NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. We will teach you the game.

What players gain goes far beyond football: confidence, friendships, leadership, discipline, resilience and the feeling of being part of a team that has your back.

Parents—if your daughter is curious but nervous, bring her out and let her try. She doesn’t have to decide that she’s a football player before she walks onto the field.

Sometimes she just needs the opportunity to discover that she can be one. 💚🖤

We have finalized our schedule and look forward to kicking our season off in Regina for Regina Victorias Football first game back in the PGFL and then in Saskatoon for Saskatoon Shields first ever home game in Prairie Girls Football League!!

The Southeast Viragos want to wish our former Head Coach, Shanelle Rioux, the very best of luck as she competes at the Senior Women’s National Championship.

Coach Rioux played a huge role in helping shape our program and inspire the next generation of female football players in southeast Saskatchewan. Her passion, leadership, and dedication to the game have left a lasting impact on our organization, and we couldn’t be more proud to see her representing Team Saskatchewan.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for the Viragos. We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
