The Cranbrook Army Cadets (also known as the 1813 Lord Strathcona Army Cadet Corps) is for youth between the ages of 12 to 19. We meet every Thursday from 6 to 9 pm at 1305 1st St South in Cranbrook. , as registration is open all year long from September to June. Army cadets is a Youth Organization that develops leadership skills, while enhancing individual concepts, such as self-confidence, self-reliance, self-esteem and self-discipline. Army cadets develops attributes in youth such as good citizenship and leadership. They also contribute to the promotion of physical fitness, and the participant outcomes of emotional and physical well-being, social/cognitive competence and proactive citizenship. Youth gain a great deal of self-confidence, self-esteem, self-disciples, team work, perseverance, respect, team building, leadership, community, and volunteerism. Fun activities include Field Training Exercises (FTX’s) 3 times a year, Map and Compass, orienteering, marksmanship, survival skills, camping in spring, fall and winter (learning different survival skills related to each), night activities, canoeing, wilderness survival skills, summer camps, drill, parades, sports and fitness and a large number of other fun activities.
