🏁 DID YOU KNOW?

There are 8 steps involved before we even host a local BMX race!

BEFORE RACE DAY

1. Input the race into the system.
2. Coordinate the race date and time with BMX Canada.
3. Order medals and make sure we have enough in stock.
4. Create and organize social media posts and race information.
5. Stock the canteen and get drinks/items into the fridge.
6. Organize volunteers and make sure positions are covered.
7. Ensure the track is race-ready and organize a crew to help with maintenance when needed.
8. Load up and bring everything we need to the track.

Then we can finally RACE! 🏁

But the work doesn’t stop there…

DURING THE RACE

1. Register every rider.
2. Make sure motos are correct and entered properly.
3. Score the races and keep track of finishes.
4. Hand out medals.
5. Pack everything up, clean up and close down the track.

AND AFTER EVERYONE GOES HOME…

1. Submit photos of the moto and score sheets to BMX Canada.
2. Enter all race scores into the system.
3. Count the money and prepare/deposit it into the bank.
4. Update our systems and records.

That’s 17+ different steps for ONE local race — many of them happening behind the scenes before riders ever line up at the gate.

It takes a lot of time, organization and volunteers to make a race happen. ❤️

The Rotary Club of Cornwall’s $10,000 investment in helping launch the Cornwall BMX track has grown into an ongoing partnership, with the organization continuing to provide $500 annually for trophies and other club needs.

“We really liked the idea of what it would do for youth,” club treasurer Dean Stanley said. Rotary has also supported Malakai Bergeron, who recently represented Team Canada at the BMX World Championships in New Zealand.
