“The Caribous Organization would like to thank Jordan and James for there contributions to team, especially the 2026 Allan Cup run. I would like to welcome the Abbott, Barry, Janes, Lynch, Shepherd and Stuckless to the Herd.” ~ President/GM Ivan Hapgood

09/30/2026

Clarenville Ford Caribous GM Ivan Hapgood is pleased to announce that things are shaping up for the Bous to be back on the ice for the 2026-27 season.

Hapgood says the last month, with the large number of retiring players, and a few others having left the Province for work, everything was very much in doubt up until September 25th when Hapgood managed to work a deal with the Blues to acquire 6 young players plus 2 draft pics in return for veteran players, Melindy and Escott, who no longer commit to travel to Clarenville every other weekend due to work and young families. Hapgood sends a big thank-you to the both of them, as they were a huge part of our Allan Cup Victory.

With both of those players gone, along with the popular Justin Pender (who has retired), Chad Earle, Shane Dominie, Andrew Mercer (working in Central), Alex Dalley. Kalab Rowe, Ben Smith and Donovan Applin have also left the province for work, so our team line-up will look a lot different this season. Hapgood would like to sincerely thank all these players for all they have done to contribute to the Caribous over the years.

“We knew this day would come” said Hapgood, but he's not prepared to say this is a total rebuild. The Caribous still have the core 5 that is as good or better than any in the league in Whiffen, Robinson, Kevin Reid, Leonard and Dawe. “This combined with a supporting cast of Evans, Mason, Hutchings, Gallant, Noftle, B**r, Keating, Chafe, Oldford and Murley along with the new younger players that will be joining the herd, I expect us to have growing pains but competitive from the start and build towards the playoffs” said Hapgood. The Caribous will welcome Ethan Stuckless who scored 17 points last season for the CB Blues, and will also welcome back former Caribou Nick Abbott (who scored 14 goals in the 2023-24 season for the herd).

The biggest thing with any change is that people have to accept it and still support from both a sponsorship and fan level – as without this support, there is simply no hockey.

The Caribous brass are looking forward to Training Camp this weekend and to have a look at a number of new players. “It is shaping up to be an interesting few weeks for sure” said Hapgood.

Caribous GM Ivan Hapgood said he would like extend a personal Thank-you to all the Fans and Sponsors that have supported us over the past number of years and if the past couple of years is any indication, interest in senior hockey in Clarenville is increasing year over year.
