2026–2027 REGISTRATION

Welcome to another season of Chester Sharks Basketball!

The Chester Minor Basketball Association is proud to continue giving local youth a place to learn, compete, build confidence, make friendships, and grow through basketball.

We remain proudly affiliated with the Cole Harbour Rockets Basketball Association, while continuing to build a strong Sharks identity right here in Chester.

Our focus for 2026–2027 is simple:

Develop the player. Build the teammate. Grow the game.

We want every athlete to leave the season better than they arrived, regardless of where they begin.

🏀 2026–2027 PROGRAMS

Final teams will be based on registration numbers, coaching availability, and league structure.

🌟 JR. NBA DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

$325

Our Jr. NBA program is designed for our youngest Sharks and children who are new to basketball.

This is a development-focused program built around fun, fundamentals, movement, teamwork, and confidence.

Best suited for:

🏀 Players generally under age 7
🏀 Children trying basketball for the first time
🏀 Older beginners who may benefit from additional development before league play

Program includes:

• Approximately 10 weeks of programming
• One session per week
• Skill-based practices in a positive environment
• Sharks apparel
• Basketball
• Participation certificate

The goal is simple: give young players a great first experience with basketball and make them excited to keep playing.

🦈 SHARKS LEAGUE TEAMS

$400

Based on current planning, we are hoping to offer:

🏀 U10 Boys
🏀 U10 Girls
🏀 U12 Boys
🏀 U12 Girls
🏀 U16 Boys

League players can expect:

• Approximately 16+ weeks of basketball
• Generally 1–2 team sessions per week
• Practices and games
• Regional travel
• League and exhibition competition
• Basketball Nova Scotia opportunities where applicable
• Players keep their Sharks jersey

The season is expected to run from approximately mid-October through late March, depending on age group and league scheduling.

📅 AGE DIVISIONS

Basketball divisions are based on a player's age as of December 31, 2026.

Players must be under the listed division age on that date.

For example:

U10

Generally includes players ages 7–9 who have not turned 10 by December 31, 2026.

Players younger than 7, or players who are new to basketball and would benefit from learning the fundamentals before entering league play, should consider our Jr. NBA Development Program.

The same age principle applies to our U12 and U16 divisions.

🌊 LOCAL ROOTS. REGIONAL COMPETITION.

Our Sharks league teams are expected to return to the Valley League for the 2026–2027 season.

There is also a strong possibility of increased coordination or an amalgamated structure involving the Valley League and Basketball Nova Scotia South Shore/Western regions.

This could create:

🏀 More opponents
🏀 Better-balanced competition
🏀 Additional regional games
🏀 More opportunities for player development

We also expect to pursue exhibition opportunities with other Basketball Nova Scotia clubs, along with participation in events such as:

🏀 U10 Jamboree
🏆 Basketball Nova Scotia Provincials, where applicable

As our players develop, we want the opportunities around them to develop too.

Registration numbers will determine which teams move forward, so we encourage families to register early.

You do not need to be a basketball expert to help make a difference.

If you are interested in helping, please indicate your interest in the volunteer section of the registration form.

Our coaches, managers, parents, and volunteers are a huge part of what makes the Sharks experience special for our kids.

Hi Sharks Families,

As our program continues to grow, we are beginning to plan for the upcoming winter basketball season and wanted to reach out early to gauge interest from families before finalizing teams and schedules.

For the 2026–2027 winter season, the Sharks are looking at offering two different pathways for players depending on interest, commitment level, and competition goals.

At this time, we are hoping to offer:

🏀 U10 Boys
🏀 U10 Girls
🏀 U12 Boys
🏀 U12 Girls
And potentially:

🏀 U14 Boys & Girls
🏀 U16 Boys &Girls
🏀 U18 Boys & Girls
if registration numbers and coaching availability allow.

🏀 Sharks Valley League Teams
Our traditional Valley League teams would continue next season for players looking for a strong local team experience focused on development, teamwork, and competition within the South Shore/Valley region.

The Valley League program would include:
• One team practice per week
• Valley League game schedule
• Jersey included
• October through March season

Estimated cost:

$450 per player

🏀 Sharks AEBL Teams
We are also exploring entering select Sharks teams into the Atlantic Elite Basketball League (AEBL) Winter League for athletes looking for an additional competitive opportunity and higher level regional play.

The AEBL pathway would include:
• One team practice per week
• Monthly AEBL showcase sessions
• Guaranteed 3 games per showcase plus playoffs
• Exhibition weekends versus MBANS teams once per month to help athletes stay game ready
• Jerseys included
• October through March season
• Teams from across Atlantic Canada
• Live stats, game film, and showcase atmosphere

Estimated cost:

$850 per player

Families considering the AEBL pathway should also understand that travel will be expected throughout the season. Showcase locations are still being finalized by the league, but current discussions have included potential events in areas such as:
• Halifax
• Truro
• The Valley
• Antigonish
• Cape Breton

As part of our planning process, we would also look at team fundraising and sponsorship opportunities to help reduce costs for families participating in the AEBL program. One of the goals of the Sharks has always been to create opportunities for athletes while keeping basketball as accessible as possible for local families.

Please note:
• Family/player travel and hotel accommodations would not be included in registration fees
• This is currently only an interest check and not a commitment
• Final team offerings will depend on registration numbers, coach availability, sponsorship opportunities, and overall interest levels

At the end of the day, our goal is to continue building opportunities for basketball players in our area while maintaining the family atmosphere and community culture that makes Sharks basketball special.

Girls Skills And Drills is a 6-week basketball development program designed to build confidence, introduce fundamental skills, and create a positive first experience in the game. Through fun, progressive drills and supportive coaching, players will develop ball-handling, shooting, passing, defense, and basic game understanding—all in a low-pressure environment focused on learning and enjoyment.
