We regret to announce the passing of former long-time member Rick Lambier on Aug. 6. He was 85.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine.
Both Rick and Elaine volunteered their time for tournaments at Mount Brenton and also for Annual General Meeting duty.
Wendy Jordan, Starr Adams, Rick, and Elaine played in a fun-filled foursome for six or seven years before Rick developed a rare form of Parkinson’s.
Elaine is living in Victoria, close to family.
He also volunteered for the Ladies Amateur and was adamant that #2 Creek was his territory as a spotter.
Our club flag will be lowered for a week in his honour.

Home field advantage
Our Interclub Senior Men’s team played an inter-club match vs. Cottonwood Golf Club on
Aug 6 at Mount Brenton and Aug 13 at Cottonwood. It was a two-player team match-play format. The home team in these events, of course, has a huge advantage, and this worked to our favour. Bravo guys.
Here is a picture of the team.

Course Conditions
We are now into the dog days of summer, and the course is in pretty good condition considering all the play and dry conditions we have seen. The increase in wetting agent applications to fairways and approaches has significantly improved their overall condition and reduced the amount of water required. Most greens are in good condition; greens that were struggling with an anthracnose outbreak are now recovering well.
Projects/Other Work
Drip irrigation around the bunker on the eighth has been installed, and the perimeter has been reshaped and resodded. We are also now doing some bunker edging throughout the course as time allows.
We are now prepping the area to the left of the eighth fairway for seeding; we will also be installing a couple of sprinklers there.
Greens aeration is scheduled for Sept. 8-10. We will use the same format as last Spring: nine holes closed on the first day, all 18 on the second day, and just nine on the third day.

New reservation reminder.
In a perfect world, members would have been notified in advance of the new reservation reminder that appeared recently in emails. However, as with our golf games, it isn’t a perfect world. Some members never need a reminder; others often do. Just delete the email once you have read it.
It is a new function of our newly updated Chronogolf booking app. There may be others coming your way, but don’t hold your breath.
Another course improvement complete at Mount Brenton. ⛳️
The bunker renovation on #8 included installing a new drip-line irrigation system and lowering the bunker lip by approximately two feet.
These improvements will help deliver moisture more efficiently to the turf surrounding the bunker, promote healthier grass, and improve long-term bunker performance and playability.
A thoughtful upgrade designed to improve both course conditions and the overall health of this area for years to come.

Here’s an update on Mount Bernon’s honorary member, Shelly Stouffer's summer.
She came in second in the Irish Senior Women's Amateur at +3, and fifth at the British Senior Women’s Amateur.
Earlier, she tied for sixth at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Am 25+ and tied for third at the Canadian Women’s Mid-Master 40+.
She’s headed to New Jersey to play in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Am after the Senior Women’s Open.

Bravo to Murray Bowler, who aced #7. His 8-iron flew 144 yards.
This is Murray’s second hole-in-one.
His playing partners were Jim Moro, Fred Stevenson, and Berry Reumken.
The In Memoriam for Jim Jones should have mentioned that he donated the 1921 woman’s putter that hangs in the Mount Brenton Pub.
