🚨Head Coach Announcement🚨

Castlegar and District Minor Hockey Association are excited to announce that David Abenante has been appointed the Head Coach for the U15 Wildcats Program for the 2026-27 Season.

David has been coaching hockey for the last 12 seasons, including the past three seasons as a head coach for the female hockey program. He is passionate about the growth and development of female hockey in the Kootenays.

He brings valuable experience, a strong commitment to player development, and believes in creating a positive team environment where athletes can build their skills, confidence and love for the game.

Coach Abenante will work with CDMHA to finalize the remaining coaching and team staff — more details coming soon.

🚨 Exciting news for Castlegar Minor Hockey!

We’re thrilled to announce that Ed McLachlan is returning as Head Coach of the U18 Rep Program for the 2026-27 season! 🏒

This season’s shared U18 Rep team will include players from both CMHA and Nelson Minor Hockey Association. Coach McLachlan will work with CMHA to finalize the remaining coaching and team staff — more details coming soon.

Saturday July 18 marked the first U13/U15 Female Summer ID Camp hosted in the West Kootenay's.

Thirty six athletes from Boundary, Kaslo, Nakusp, Grandforks, Nelson, Castlegar and Trail gathered at the Cominco Arena to sharpen their skills on and off the ice. Every player brought their best, executing drills and showcasing their talent. Prior to the ice the session players were run through a dryland fitness clinic designed to prepare them for the hockey season instructed by Terry Yuris who was an organizer for the event.

A special thanks goes out to the coaches; Katie Borsato, Matt Swankhuizen, Dave Abenante, Andrew Webster and Al McMartin.

Thank you to all of the parents, players and West Kootenay minor hockey association volunteers who continue to give their time to support and grow female hockey.

There will be more female hockey training opportunities in the West Kootenay’s as the season progresses.

Join the West Kootenay Wildcats for a FREE Female ID Camp and experience what Wildcats hockey is all about.
