Proper Form: Chest Press

The chest press strengthens your chest, shoulders, and triceps, helping you build the upper-body strength needed for everyday pushing movements like opening heavy doors, pushing a stroller or shopping cart, and carrying.

👉 Set-up
Choose a weight that feels challenging while allowing you to maintain proper form throughout the movement.
Adjust the seat so the handles will be at mid-chest level when your hands are on the grips.

👉 Proper Form
Keep your elbows slightly bent at the end of the movement.
Shoulders should stay down and relaxed.
Maintain control throughout the full range of motion.

🎯 Movement Cues
Sit with your back and head supported against the pad.
Push the foot pedal to bring the handles forward into the starting position. Once the handles are in place, position your hands with a neutral wrist and maintain a comfortable elbow position.
Place your feet securely on the footrests and keep them stable throughout the movement.
Keep your chest lifted, core engaged, and shoulders down and back throughout the movement.
Press the handles forward in a smooth, controlled motion while keeping your wrists straight and elbows pointed downward.
Control the return of the handles after each repetition.

After your final repetition, press the pedal forward to safely release the handles back to the starting position before exiting the machine.

The Fourth Trimester is a four-week program designed to support and empower you as you rebuild strength, restore confidence, and reconnect with your body after childbirth.

The series offers a unique opportunity to prioritize your own health and well-being while bonding with your little one in a welcoming, supportive environment alongside other new moms.

Led by Kerry McCormick, each 60-minute session combines progressive strength training with functional movement to help you safely regain strength, improve endurance, and build confidence in everyday movement. Using a variety of equipment—including resistance bands, dumbbells, bodyweight exercises, and other training tools—you'll develop a strong foundation while progressing at a pace that's right for you.

Optional: For an additional level of personalized support, you may book a physiotherapy assessment before the program begins. Following the assessment, your physiotherapist and Kerry will collaborate on a customized exercise plan designed specifically for you. Your individualized plan will guide your progress throughout each class. Moms must be at least six weeks postpartum before the assessment.

The series runs 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning October 7. Please drop by our front desk or call us to register.

The cost of the series is $156 (program only) or $286 (program plus physiotherapy component -- check with your insurance provider as the package option can be covered under some extended health plans).
