Hello parents and players,
Just a quick update as I begin the process of building our teams for the upcoming season.
I want to make sure everyone is on the same page. My goal is, and always will be, to have as many of our players as possible playing hockey here at home in Campbell River. Sometimes that means player movement is necessary, whether that’s moving a player up a division or down a division.
These decisions are never made based on who the player is, who the coach is, or to make one team stronger or weaker than another. The priority is giving our girls the opportunity to play, practice, and grow together as a team in their own community.
I always do my best to make everyone happy, but the reality is that building teams is rarely as straightforward as it seems. There are a lot of factors that go into making sure every player has the best opportunity to play at home whenever possible.
Last season’s U18 team is a good example. Powell River generously allowed five players to join us, and I’m incredibly grateful for their support. Without that, eight Campbell River girls wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play at home.
It also highlighted why playing locally matters. The girls didn’t get to practice together consistently, it was difficult to build team chemistry, and the Powell River players often had to leave quickly to catch the ferry—sometimes even before games were finished. It was challenging for everyone involved.
That’s why my focus is always on finding the best way to keep our players playing in Campbell River whenever we can.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email or call me.
Thanks, and have a great day.
