The ringette season is almost here!! We have a few more drills to share before we’re all back at the rink 😊
Drill Name: Rebound 1v1
Athletes line up above the blue line with rings in the corners and the starting player (X2) with a ring. No one else has a ring. X1 begins on defence.
X2 breaks in against X1 for a shot:
- if there is a rebound or X2 misses the net - X1 & X2 race for the rebound. Whoever gets it attempts to break out, the other forechecks. The player who successfully breaks out the ring passes to X3 in line and rejoins the line. The defending (forechecking) player becomes the D on the next rep against X3
- if X2 scored on the original shot, she gets a free skate to the corner for a new ring, breaks out and X1 stay on D for next rep.
- if the ring stops in the crease on X2s original shot. Goalie distributes ring to X1 (D) who breaks out. X2 forechecks and will become D against X3 on next rep. X1 rejoins line.
There is potential for a D to get “stuck” in the drill. Coaches can call for a D swap if needed.

Week #4 of weekly drills!
Double Small Area Compete
Instructions: Split athletes into two teams (colours) and flip nets to create two small area playing zones. Two athletes of the same colour enter the drill and play a 1v1 in the first small area. A coach feeds in rings for 20-30s to keep the 1v1 going.
At the same time, a 2v2 is happening in the other small area.
On the whistle, athletes rotate and one group leaves the 2v2 area. Each pair of two that enters the drill will play one 1v1 and two 2v2s.
When the 1v1 pair enters the 2v2 small area, they are now teammates.
Make sure to alternate the coloured pair that enters the 1v1 area.
