Summer nights 🤝🏻 Training with friends

Although the IATA Rec league may have wrapped up for the season, we still have lots going on out on the pitch!

Join us Tuesdays and Thursdays as we enjoy the last couple weeks of summer with pick-up football and hurling matches.

Thanks to the Calgary Kangaroos who swing by and keep things interesting for us! We always love having you out.

After a couple of great games Tuesday night, we are looking forward to the IATA Rec league finals this Saturday! 🏆🏆🏆

Games will be running from 10:30am - 1:00pm, so if you aren’t playing, swing by the pitch to cheer us on!

The bar will open at the Calgary Irish Cultural Society after the matches, and we will be heading there afterwards for a couple of pints. To round off a great evening, all are welcome to join us St. James Corner for 7pm.

If you are wishing for even more GAA action, don’t worry! Our final round of the Rec League takes place this evening at 7:00pm.

We were all smiles on and off the pitch for Week 6 of the IATA Rec League!

CIPR dominated their game against ICS 7-7 to 2-5, taking home their first win of the season!! Charter borrowed a few extra teammates to put on a competitive match against UpDown, leading 5-9 to 3-9.

The return of the Calgary Invitational was a raging success! 5 teams made their way down to us for an action packed day full of football, hurling, and camogie.

The Calgary Stampede Caravan Committee started the day off with a fantastic pancake breakfast to fuel up our athletes and later in the day, our amazing volunteers manned J&L’s awesome BBQ to put on a great lunch.

For a perfect end to a perfect day, we headed over to the Calgary Irish Cultural Society for a few pints (and maybe a sip from a trophy) and then moved on to St. James Corner to keep the fun going!

A huge thank you to all of the teams who attended, to our volunteers who donated so much of their time to put this event together, and to our sponsors for their continued support.

We look forward to seeing everyone next year when we do it all again!

The IATA Rec League fired back up this week after taking a quick pause for Stampede (yahoo 🤠)! It was great to get back out on the pitch and dust off the football skills for our upcoming tournament this weekend.

Up Down faced off against CIPR and secured the win with a score of 6-8 to 4-5. ICS and Charter had a great game as well with Charter taking the lead 3-13 to 2-9.

Whether playing or cheering on the sidelines, we look forward to seeing everyone out at the pitch this Saturday, July 18, for the 2026 Chieftains Invitational!

Yahoo! The Chieftains took a quick break this week to get into the Stampede spirit! After many concerts, rodeos, and pancake breakfasts, we dusted off our best western gear and headed over to St. James Corner for a pint (or three) to round off a great week! 🤠🤠

We now return to our regularly scheduled activities with the IATA Rec League coming up on Tuesday, training on Thursday, and our home tournament this Saturday, July 18!! 🏆🏆🏆

Although Week 1 of the IATA Rec League got off to a stormy start, we had beautiful weather for our rescheduled matches. A huge thank you goes out to Laureen Regan, president of the Ireland-Alberta Trade Association, for braving the storm last week and throwing in the first ball of the season!

This week’s Players of the Match go to Farron O’Hare (ICS vs. Charter) and Bee (CIPR vs. Up Down)!

Farron put in a good shift across the whole pitch, both up front and supporting in the back line. Not only that, he scored important goals including one in the dying seconds that secured ICS the win.

Bee’s ability to defend against her opponents, retrieve the sliotar, and launch it back down the pitch was incredible. Her strength in the back line helped lead Up Down to victory.

Week 3 of the Rec League will take place on Tuesday June 30th. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Week 2 of the IATA Rec League was full of blue skies, smiles, and slightly blurry photos as we took on our first round of football. A lovely change from the hail that delayed Week 1! We had two great matches with Charter taking the game against CIPR 5-5 to 2-11 and ICS leading Up Down 8-6 to 6-3.

Our first two players of the week are Drew Hamilton (CIPR vs. Charter) and Sara Armstrong (ICS vs. Up Down).

Not only a fantastic golfer, Drew topped off his wonderful debut with a Player of the Match performance scoring the first 2 points of his GAA career!

Sara played an incredible game for UpDown, covering the entire pitch thanks to her tireless runs, lightning speed and quick accurate passes!

Week 1 of the IATA Rec League has been rescheduled to Thursday June 25, where we are looking forward to even more competitive matches!

We had a great turnout in Red Deer this weekend for the Alberta Cup, facing off against Edmonton Wolfe Tones GAA Club!!

A huge congrats to the lads for defending our title and bringing home the trophy!! 🏆🏆

Although the ladies game didn’t go the way we wished, it was fantastic to have so many new faces out on the pitch. As we gain more and more game experience throughout the summer, we will be ready for a rematch in the fall!!
