DARREN ZACK TAKES FASTPITCH TO NATIONAL TELEVISION! 🇨🇦
On this day 26 years ago, one of the greatest pitchers the game has ever seen helped put men’s fastpitch in front of a massive North American television audience.
Canadian legend Darren Zack appeared live on NBC’s Today Show in New York City as part of a feature surrounding Jeremy Spear’s iconic fastpitch documentary, Fast Pitch.
The documentary offered a fascinating look inside the world of men’s fastpitch, with Zack emerging as one of its unforgettable figures. His appearance on Today brought that world to an even bigger stage.
Outside Studio 1A, Zack showed viewers firsthand just how overpowering a world-class fastpitch pitcher could be — even striking out Today Show personalities Al Roker and Sara James during the segment.
For a sport that has often fought for mainstream attention, this was a pretty special moment.

For a few minutes on August 22, 2000, the fastpitch world had the national stage.
26 years later, it remains a pretty damn cool piece of fastpitch history.

Seven Inning Stretch 12/12 Series 1 #
Our next CISA player bio is what defines a real ball player.
He has been apart of our league since the age of 14. Throughout those 19 seasons he’s has witnessed his fair share of ups and downs.
He and alongside close friend Dylon Silver started the Calgary Pirates in 2007 from the ground up.
The start was tough with a few seasons of developing and learning that baseball doesn’t always love you back. Adding valuable experienced teammates along the way to becoming both a league and now current Alberta Provincial champion we introduce our President Ryan Simpson .niner El presidente we have been teammates for 5 amazing seasons and I think you and I have seen it all haha. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and let’s answer some fun questions along the way.
What’s your home town? My hometown is right here a city I’ve personal helped build with my very own hands.
What is your inspiration and when did you start playing fastpitch?
I started playing when I was 6,my dad is definitely my inspiration. He coached me well into my 20’s and watching him play growing up was just the best! I think we have to give honourable mentions to your daughter and Andie. She’s here rain or shine haha .
Also being asked to join a travel team for tournaments. Being apart of the Yellowknife Merchants has really pushed me to the next step. Playing against world class teams and now going to my first Nationals next week. Just awesome, let’s go to some questions!
What’s your favourite pregame meal?
Haha what most CISA players enjoy..
Caffeine,nicotine,beers and a cheeseburger.
If you could be an Olympic athlete what would you be? I’d probably go winter and it’d be snowboarding.
And closing it out- favourite baseball movie?
Most definitely all time great “Major League”
Thanks Ryan for your quality time and let’s have a great finish to the season and best of luck at Nationals in Saskatoon next week!🥎
