the Perseid meteor shower drops off gradually and is highly active through August 24. Just the peak with the most viewing is Aug 12 11pm to Aug 13 4am. 💫You can absolutely catch a meteor with your smartphone! While phones cannot match a professional DSLR, modern mobile night-mode settings are now powerful enough to capture shooting stars.Step-by-Step Phone SetupKeep It Dead Still: You cannot hold the phone in your hand. A 10-second exposure will blur completely from your pulse. Clamp your phone into a tripod, or prop it securely against a cooler or a rock angled up at the sky.Turn Off the Flash: Ensure your flash is completely disabled. It will only light up nearby tree leaves or campground grass, ruining the night sky exposure.Turn on Night Mode: On an iPhone or Samsung, look for the Night Mode or Pro/Night icon (usually a moon or a clock symbol). Manually dial the exposure time up to its maximum setting, which is usually 10 to 30 seconds.Use a Timer Delay: Do not tap the screen to take the shot, as that shakes the phone. Set a 3-second shutter delay timer so the vibration from your finger settles before the camera starts recording.
