The 2026 edition of the Mohawk Mountaineers Summer Elite Camp wrapped up on July 10 after a great week of player development and training with the coaches and athletes of . Dartanian Gates is on a ROLL! Gates repeats as Camp MVP after his MVP season with the U16 Team Quinn Huskies. Simon Kaplan earns the 2026 camp most improved player award, while Jonah Kaplan gets the honours for the coaches' choice award. Congrats also to the team competition winners for the week. Raptors/Coach Happy - 5 v 5, Knicks/Coach Iverson - 4 v 4, and Fiji/Coach Amadis - 3 v 3. A big Huskies thank you to , , and for another outstanding week of development and learning for our athletes.

It’s time for the final award of the season and arguably the most anticipated one of all. These athletes affected the game on both ends of the court, brought out the best in their teammates, and stepped up in key moments throughout the season. Congratulations to the 2025–26 Huskies Rep Most Valuable Player Award winners!
Thomas Heming is the MVP for U15 Wolak after a strong debut season. #12 made an immediate impact and showed great potential throughout the year, and earns this season's honour. Dartanian Gates had a tremendous second season of rep basketball. Gates led Team Quinn in PTS, REB, FTA, FTM, and shooting %'age. Also averaging over 7 FTA/game, Gates's physical play paid off and he is the Q-Dogs 2026 MVP. Nerraud Thomas repeats with MVP honours for Team Hinzey. Averaging a double-double for the season, and like his Team Quinn counterpart, Neyo led his team in virtually every stat category, and earns a club record 3rd consecutive MVP honours. MVP selection is the one time we like our coaches job to be difficult. All of the U17 starting five were in consideration, but it's Ben Tindale who earns the MVP for the Dajoh Dogs. #3 was the reliable and consistent presence all year long, coming up clutch with solid decision making and great composure, especially in the final stretch. Well done, and well earned, Huskies!

It's the award that gets all the coaches, old-school basketball fans, and defensive specialists talking like they're the new panelists on Inside the NBA, and with good reason! The Defensive Player of the Year recognizes the players who embraced the toughest assignments, made life difficult for opponents, and understood that defense wins games. These athletes brought effort, discipline, toughness, and to the defensive end all season long. For U15 Wolak, Benjamin Makanjuola put together an outstanding first rep season. Bringing relentless energy and defensive intensity every time he stepped on the floor, Ben's improvement throughout the year was impossible to miss, and culminated in some of his best performances at Ontario Cup. U16 Hinzey's Daniel Kenney earns DPOY honours after another tremendous season on both ends of the court. While D2K filled the stat sheet in many ways, it was his defensive play that often proved to be the difference maker for Team Hinzey. With a lean roster throughout the season, Kenney routinely took on difficult assignments, playing tough, controlled defense while somehow managing to stay out of foul trouble all year long. For Team Quinn, Mubarak Jimoh was simply a game-changer defensively. Steals, hustle plays, chase-down blocks, loose-ball recoveries, #10 did it all. His relentless defensive effort created countless extra possessions and opportunities for the Q-Dogs, helping power the team all the way to an Ontario Cup Championship in just their second rep season. Elijah Girolametto collects his second award of the season as Team Tindale's Defensive Player of the Year. Getting a stop is one thing. Turning that stop into a scoring opportunity is what separates great defenders from elite ones. Elijah's basketball IQ, grit, and ability to make winning plays consistently put him in that category. His steady leadership, focus, and defensive presence were exactly what the U17 squad needed throughout the season. Congratulations to our Huskies Rep 2025-2026 Defensive Players of the Year!

Looking for summer training programs? There are still spots available for these summer programs. Mohawk Mountaineers Summer Elite Camp is an excellent camp style program for intermediate to advanced level athletes ages 13-18 who are looking to improve or stay sharp for club and HS teams. Led by Mohawk Mountaineers Basketball varsity coaches and athletes, this program features daily gym sessions at the David Braley Athletic & Recreation Centre that focus on player and skill development and also include a classroom component. Huskies Summer Sessions are 1/2 day camps for beginners and house league level players. Led by NCCP certified coaches, these programs help athletes build skills and gain confidence with games, drills, and contests in a fun and friendly camp style program. The Best Teammate award is unique in the slate of Huskies season awards as it's the winner is chosen by the team. There is no specified selection criteria, and each player votes for who their "best teammate" - whatever that means for them. It could be someone who pushes them to be better, the guy who always keeps it loose in practice with a laugh, or the guy they most enjoy playing with. As in previous years, there were multiple nominees on every team, which says a lot about the respect and relationships amongst these athletes. Shout outs to Jasiah Amponsah and Noah Bint who are both back to back winners for their teams. Congratulations to all of your 2026 recipients of Huskies Rep Best Teammate Award!

The Leadership/Club Values Award recognizes the athletes who lead by example. They demonstrate commitment, work ethic, resilience, and a team-first mindset. These team leaders play an important role in shaping both their team and the Huskies club culture. Whether through their actions, attitude, or support of their teammates, they serve as role models for younger and newer members of our program. Travis Rae demonstrated leadership well beyond his rep experience. Rae showed up ready and engaged at the first tryout and that attitude and leadership never changed. Throughout the season Travis was positive, resilient, and committed to improvement and to his teammates, and it's that type of leadership that helped the team to a bronze medal finish at the Ontario Cup in their very first rep season.
Team Hinzey has Kalem Marshall claiming this year's award. Marshall's the loudest one at practice, counting, encouraging, and motivating his teammmates. Marshall's growing confidence and skill set was a key factor in elevating the play and belief of this team this season. We've got a repeat winner for Team Quinn, as Jonah Kaplan is a second time recipient of the Leadership/Club Values award for the Q-Dogs. Coaches place great trust in their veteran players, and Jonah consistently rewarded that trust through his reliability, maturity, and willingness to lead by example. His experience, coachability, and commitment to the team were key factors in his selection for this award. Team Tindale has co-winners for their team leaders with Elijah Girolametto and Ben Tindale sharing the honours for the Dajoh Dogs. These two helped guide their team through a difficult season, but used those lessons learned to take Team Tindale to the medal podium at Ontario Cup. Congratulations to these outstanding team leaders and Leadership/Club Values Award recipients!

There's one topic coaches never get tired of discussing, and that's player development. Medals, trophies, and banners look great on display, but the real measure of any program is player improvement. Players who show up to training and practice and put in the work see the return on that investment in the form of improved skills, confidence, and playing minutes. Congratulations and well done to the recipients of the 2026 Huskies Rep Most Improved Player awards!
