Our first pilot rider joined our program this week and within 24 hours was sent riding feedback, advice, and homework to try to help her improve her partnership with her horse.

I’m so excited to welcome Jacqueline Reynolds to the panel of coaches I’m building for the Empower Equine Coaching pilot. Jacqueline began riding at eight years old and has built an extensive career in the hunter, jumper, and equitation rings. She is an Equestrian Canada Licensed coach, a graduate of the University of Guelph’s Equine Care and Management program, and has competed successfully up to the Gold level. Jacqueline has spent the last 10 years grooming and coaching for well respected professionals and is the owner of Mapleview Performance Hunters where she is known for developing confident, correct riders with a strong foundation in flatwork and equitation. I personally know Jacqui to be a friendly and welcoming instructor who is extremely knowledgeable and supportive. My favourite pics from XC schooling today - really good prep for our first ever eventing day next Sunday! More prep to do for the dressage test part but that’s tomorrow’s task!

I took Princeton out for his first XC schooling to prep for our first eventing show next weekend. After a few refusals and slow start he really got into the rhythm of it and handled himself so well, and I LOVED it. It’s hard to have to be the confident one in a partnership with a young horse but I’m learning the more confident I am, the more he relaxes so I just have to keep that in mind for next week.

Another great morning at the barn with the kiddo. I will not apologize for the filming ability of a 7 yr old, he’s so sweet and loves giving the horses all the treats after I ride.

Who here has used a coach for more than just riding instruction? I know I have. I’ve had my coach teach me lunging skills, I’ve had coaches help me back my horse, show me groundwork and teach me methods for keeping my horse happy and healthy before and after rides. Virtual coaching can help with this too, if you’re able to film your horse moving, send us pictures and videos of where you think there’s something to check out or a part of your horsemanship that needs work, we can help. Excited to go schooling on Sunday. This will be our 3rd attempt as attempts 1 and 2 were foiled by a storm and a lost shoe so wish us luck we make it there!!
