We love a good shimmy! But a good shimmy isn’t just about shaking faster — it’s about finding relaxation and control.
Start with your weight grounded through your feet, soft knees, lifted through the ribs, and your centre of gravity comfortably over your base.
The legs power the movement while the upper body stays relaxed. Keep breathing, and don’t be afraid to slow the shimmy down.
Importantly, listen to the music — especially the ebbs and flows of the accordion or tabla. You want your to breathe with the music, too.
That’s why we like to drill shimmies like crazy … so eventually, the shimmy becomes part of your dance, not something you have to think about.

Fall classes aren’t just about learning choreography. We train.
We break down technique, we drill it, repeat it, and work on making those movements feel natural in the body.
Across-the-floor drills are one of my favourite ways to do that — and my students love it too because you can’t hide from the movement when you’re travelling!
It’s focused, it’s physical, and yes… sometimes it’s an awesome workout. 🥵🤗
That’s how we build stronger dancers — one drill, one skill, one class at a time.

One of my favourite things to do is watch native Egyptian dancers and how they seem to savour every movement. A beautiful reminder for all of us that dance isn’t about just getting through a choreography, it’s about enjoying the feeling and the experience!

Celebrating the end of a very special session with these hard working, lovely dancers who are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. Grateful for every moment we had together training this term!

Months of hard work, dedication, and determination all leading to this moment. These girls gave it their all every single week in class. Showing up. Prepared and ready to work hard. This night was no different!

I rarely step onto the stage with my classes, so this moment felt especially meaningful.
Sharing the stage with these incredible women was such a joy. Behind these few minutes of dancing are countless hours of classes, rehearsals, laughter, problem-solving, and dedication.
As a teacher preparing a class for a show, I spend most of my time watching, demonstrating and giving feedback. Getting to be part of the dance alongside them was a reminder of why I fell in love with this art form in the first place. And we all fell in love with this song so much I just had to dance it!
