“I’M JUST DOUG.” 😂❤️

When we first met Kartiga & Doug, we commented on what an unusual and beautiful name Kartiga was.

Doug’s response?

“I’m just Doug.” 😂

And that was our introduction to this wonderful couple with their sense of humour and adventure.

Neither came to us with dance experience. They simply wanted to make time together and create their First Dance to “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur.

So they committed to learning the Rumba. Step by step, they learned how to move together and bring their Wedding Dance to life.

And afterwards, Kartiga & Doug sent us their wedding video with a message that made us smile:

“We were so happy with our dance and are so glad we committed to learning it.” ❤️

That's what Wedding Dance lessons are really about. You don't have to arrive as dancers.

Sometimes you just have to decide it's worth learning something fun and new.

THEY'D NEVER DANCED BEFORE. ❤️
When Sara & Michael came to danceScape, they were starting from zero. Neither had danced before.

But that's one of the things we love most about teaching Wedding Dance. It's not about turning someone into a dancer.

It's about giving two people enough confidence with movement and music that they can begin to express something that's already there.

For Sara & Michael, their First Dance became a way of telling their story together to “Can't Help Falling in Love.” ❤️

They brought that story to the dance floor at McMaster Alumni Memorial Hall. Just two people, one song — and a story worth dancing. ❤️

WHEN LATIN RHYTHM MEETS COUNTRY MUSIC ❤️🤠

Elizabeth is Latin — but she loves country music.

So when she and Jayson chose “The Kind of Love We Make” by Luke Combs for their First Dance, there was no reason their Wedding Dance had to fit neatly into just one category.

We used Cha Cha as their foundation, then added their own personality, musical taste and style.

The result?

A First Dance that felt like Elizabeth & Jayson. ❤️

Because your Wedding Dance doesn't have to fit a category.

It should fit YOU.

Congratulations, Elizabeth & Jayson! We loved being part of your journey to the dance floor at Cellar 42 in St. Jacobs. ❤️

WHEN A PILOT LEARNS TO SOAR ON THE DANCE FLOOR ✈️❤️

Almost a year before their wedding, Briana & Barrett came to us to start preparing for their First Dance.

Barrett is an airline pilot — which means his schedule doesn't always fit neatly into the same day and time every week.

So their Wedding Dance lessons were planned around their lives, their schedules and their wedding journey.

No rush. No need to squeeze everything into the final few weeks.

Then, the day before their wedding, they wanted one last lesson.

So Beverley travelled to their beautiful wedding venue at the Barn on Victoria in Jordan Station for their final lesson together.

And the next day, it was time.

Briana & Barrett stepped onto the dance floor and soared in a Waltz to "28" by Zach Bryan. ✈️❤️

Congratulations to you both!

And for couples whose lives don't fit into a traditional weekly schedule — pilots, healthcare professionals, shift workers, frequent travellers, or simply very busy people — your Wedding Dance doesn't have to either.

Start early. Learn at your pace. We'll work with your schedule.

FROM DRAGONS’ DEN … to the Wedding Dance Floor. ❤️

Years ago, Gary & Tiffany appeared together on CBC’s Dragons’ Den.

(And yep… so did Robert & Beverley! 😊)

Different seasons. Different adventures. Who could have imagined their paths would cross years later in a completely different way?

Gary & Tiffany came to danceScape to prepare for their Wedding Dance to Nat King Cole’s beautiful That’s All, before celebrating at The Spice Factory in Hamilton.

That’s one of the joys of what we do at danceScape — sharing a small part of life’s special moments, from the first lesson to that moment when the music begins and the dance is theirs.

Congratulations, Gary & Tiffany! 🥂❤️

May you always find your way back into each other’s arms — and keep embracing all the adventures life brings your way.

WE DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS THE CEO OF DENNINGER'S. ❤️

Denninger’s | Family-owned gourmet grocery store is a long-standing, family-owned food business with German roots — and a familiar name especially in Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and beyond.

Marah first contacted us about Wedding Dance lessons, and she and Patrick simply became a couple we had the privilege of getting to know.

Lesson after lesson, we danced, laughed and prepared them for their big day.

Then, during their final lesson, we started talking about their honeymoon — Italy, Scotland, Walkers Shortbread... and food.

Beverley, of course, started talking about some of her favourite Denninger's foods. 😂

That's when we discovered:

Patrick was the CEO of Denninger's.

We'd gone through all those lessons without knowing.

But that's what makes us smile most.

Before we knew Patrick's title, we knew Patrick & Marah — two people preparing for their wedding and learning to dance together.

Sometimes the best connections aren't planned.

Sometimes... they begin with a Wedding Dance. ❤️

Congratulations, Patrick & Marah. It was a joy being part of yours.

4 DANCES. 4 MINUTES.
Could they actually do it?

We put a whole group to the test at Latin Night at the Museum: Merengue, Bachata, Salsa and Cha Cha in just four minutes.

They clapped. Counted. Marched.
And then… they danced. 💃🕺

So now it's your turn.

Which Latin dance would you try first?
A) Merengue
B) Bachata
C) Salsa
D) Cha Cha

WHEN FIVE WIVES BECOME FIVE DANCE MOVES… 😂🇨🇳

At Chinese Rhythm & Taste, Robert had an unusual way of remembering the five parts of China’s viral Referee Dance…

His great-grandfather had five wives. 😳😂
Five wives. Five moves. One step at a time.

Then came the challenge:

“We have to do this in DOUBLE TIME now!”
And suddenly, the room was dancing. 🙌

Afterwards, guests told us:

“I’ve honestly never seen anyone teach a dance so effectively in such a short amount of time.”

That’s what we love about social dancing. You don’t have to arrive knowing the steps.
You just have to take the first one. ❤️

WHEN DANCE TEACHERS BECAME THE STUDENTS 🇺🇦 | A NIGHT IN UKRAINE

Sometimes we teach. Sometimes we learn. And sometimes, we simply learn together. ❤️

Throughout eat make share: dine & dance, each cultural celebration included something important to us at danceScape: an opportunity to move beyond watching the dance — and learn one together.

At A Night in Ukraine, it was our turn to learn.

Laryssa and Matthew of Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School invited us onto the floor and introduced us to the Polka.

Robert partnered with one of our danceScape Ballroom students (Heidi), and together they learned something new.

Across the floor, Beverley experienced a wonderful reversal.

Years ago, one of our students (Tanya) learned Salsa with us. She is Ukrainian and grew up with Polka. This time, she was helping Beverley. Her daughter was also among the young Tyrsa dancers performing that evening.

Teacher. Student. Sometimes those roles change.

Because one of the beautiful things about dance is that there is always something we can learn from each other.

Thank you to Tyrsa Ukrainian Dance School for sharing your dance and culture as they celebrate an extraordinary 50th season. 🇺🇦❤️

A Night in Ukraine was the finale of eat make share: dine & dance, hosted by Museums of Burlington, with danceScape as Community & Cultural Activation Partner. The special exhibition of eat make share: a taste of immigration continues until September 5th at Joseph Brant Museum.

We may have reached the final event — but we're working backwards through the social dances we learned along the way...
