So it’s been two weeks since the XTERRA Sleeping Giant. And what is our Race Director up to? Taking a long, well deserved nap perhaps? lol. No.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, it’s amazing how similar the psyche is when you are a Race Director vs triathlete (I’m both so I know). You take some downtime after the race, sure, but almost immediately your mind is racing about how you can improve for next time and you get off your butt start working!

So these last two weekends this is what I’ve been up to - organizing our stuff and our trailer. I built shelves, racks etc…. Planned it all out like I’d plan a transition! Bike racks and fencing first in last out. Coolers on a moveable shelf (in case we need to haul an atv or something). Transition bins and table at the back. Should be so much easier for take down and set up next year.

Looking forward to 2027! We’ll be announcing our date soon - stay tuned!

We've been busy wrapping up another great year for the XTERRA Sleeping Giant. Got to get some more thank yous out! First up is our great group of sponsors! This event absolutely would NOT be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and funders. Triathlons are complex and costly events to put on and we are a small not-for-profit organization.

Sponsors helps us out tremendously by allowing us to keep the costs down for participants, while still being able to afford some of the elements that make the experience special. Many of our sponsors have come back to us year after year.

Thanks to every one of these local businesses who stepped up for the good of the community to help us put this wonderful event on!

Tomorrow’s the day!! Kids kicked it off tonight in style even though the weather was rough. No stopping them! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Went out for a quick lap of the bike and run courses tonight for the first time since getting back to tbay and I’m pleased to report that the trails are in INCREDIBLE shape this week! Everything is running hard and fast! It should be a fantastic weekend of racing!

There are still a few hours left to sign up - you aren’t going to want to miss this! Thanks so much to Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club for all of the hard work on maintaining the trails and to Karen and Mark for doing a fantastic job signing the trails!

One quick note to all - for those who have watched the video I posted, we did make a small change to the bike course. At the top of the lookout trail we decided NOT to follow the new section of single track this year and instead are keeping to the short section of double track, therefore the arrow as per the bottom photo is accurate (the maps are/were always correct as well). This decision was made after I had filmed the video and I wasn’t reshoot it (because I was in Labrador at the time). This will be reiterated at the course/safety briefings this week and I’ll post a note to the YouTube video.

We are now ONE WEEK from raceday! Registration closes TONIGHT at midnight, Don't miss out! We have some of the best odds to qualify for the XTERRA World Championship - with 2-3 slots available PER AGE GROUP! If you've missed your slot at other events, you can still qualify with us!

Join us next week in Thunder Bay! Flights are still available through Toronto (a 1-2hr connection) or an easy 3 hr drive from Duluth Minnesota. What are you waiting for!?! It's going to be a heck of a party up here next week.
