Thank you for applying for our Defying Gravity Dance Classes in Barrington at the new recreational centre on Sherose Island. Your application has been accepted! We are so excited to get our dance classes started with a brand new dance room.

We will be offering a 4 week summer session starting in August on Thursday evenings:

Intro to Dance (ages 3-5) @ 4:15-4:45pm ($40.00 for 4 weeks)

Intro to Dance (ages 3-5) @ 4:45–5:15pm ($40.00 for 4 weeks)

Hip-Hop & Acrobatics & Ballet & Contemporary (ages 6-9) @ 5:15-6:15pm ($50.00 for 4 weeks)

Dance Class Descriptions:

⭐️ Intro to Dance:
This introductory class is perfect for dancers ages 3-5.5 who wish to learn and explore the following Dance Styles: Acro, Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical and Hip-Hop. Experiencing different combos and exercises each week, providing a fun and engaging class with the tiny dancers.

⭐️ Acrobatics & Hip-Hop:
This class teaches the basics and helps refine Acrobatic skills, drills and core strengthening. We also focus on Hip-Hop choreography, steps and combos throughout the term. New choreography and combos are taught to grow and refine skills.

⭐️ Ballet, Contemporary & Lyrical:
This class focuses on Ballet foundation, ballet barre, skills, weight transfer and technique strengthening. The dancers will learn/execute turns, leaps and jump training at this level. We also focus on Contemporary & Lyrical choreography, improv and combos throughout the term.

We are so excited to get back into dancing at the beautiful new dance studio at the updated Rec. Centre! Dates and times will be posted soon!

It has been a long road to get to this point, but the wait is now over. After years of planning, construction, challenges and patience, we are excited to finally open the doors to our new Recreation Centre.

The Centre will have a soft launch on Monday, July 13, which will be a low-key opening where you can come in, explore the new facility, use the spaces and get familiar with the building before the official grand opening. The official grand opening will then take place on Wednesday, August 5, and more details will be shared soon.

We are excited to welcome everyone into the new facility and thank you for your patience and support throughout this important project.

Barrington Recreation

We are aiming for summer classes! 🤩

We know that many of you are wondering about the new recreation centre and are eager to start using it, so we wanted to share an update to help you understand where we are and what we have been experiencing.

As many of you are aware, this project has experienced several delays. These delays have been caused by a combination of factors, including poor communication between the design team and the contractor, concealed or previously unknown site conditions, underperforming subcontractors, and some materials being back-ordered. While challenges can arise on projects of this size, the ongoing issues on this project have gone well beyond what is reasonable and have been both frustrating and unacceptable.

Responsibility for these delays rests with the general contractor and the design team. While we, as the municipality, have been actively involved, we rely on these teams to coordinate the work, ensure timely ordering of materials, and address issues as they arise. When they have fallen short, it has impacted our ability to provide accurate timelines and meet your expectations.

Throughout this process, we have experienced a range of emotions, including frustration, disappointment, stress, and even embarrassment. We understand that delays like these can be confusing and disappointing, but we want to assure you that this project is a priority and we will continue to do everything we can to get it done.

With some electrical work and inspections still to be completed, we do not feel confident in the dates provided by the contractor to share any new timelines for an open house, public opening, or grand opening. Unfortunately, this means we will not be able to open the recreation centre on January 26 as last updated. That said, we are closer than ever to the finish line, but we want to be certain before communicating specific dates. In the meantime, we will continue to communicate directly with those who have booked space and provide another public update as soon as we have a firm idea of when the building will be ready for use.

While this process has not gone as we hoped, it is important to keep in mind what this project means for our municipality. This is a huge step forward in our ability to provide enhanced recreation services, activities, and events.

Planning on offering classes again in this 2026 💃🏼🕺🏻

We’re happy to share the latest update on our new recreational facility! While construction has taken a little longer than originally planned, we’re now in the home stretch with an updated timeline in place.

The facility is expected to have a soft opening in December 2025, when it will be available for limited use. A full opening and Grand Opening celebration will follow in the New Year (early 2026), when the entire space will be ready to welcome the community.

This new space will be a first for Sou’West Nova — a facility designed to bring people together for recreation, learning, and community activities. From multi-purpose rooms and group activity spaces to a programming kitchen, recreation areas, and workshops, there will be something for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming the community into this new facility and are excited to see all the ways it will be utilized.
