π£ SCMHA Player & Goalie Release Information
If a SCMHA player or goaltender wishes to request a release, a parent/guardian must email [email protected] with:
β
Player/goalie name
β
Date of birth
β
Team and association they wish to try out for
Release requests may be approved by the SCMHA President for the following reasons:
π SCMHA does not offer the level of play being sought (U11/U13/U15/U18 A, AA, or AAA).
For example:
β’ If SCMHA does not offer a U18 program, players may request a release to play U18 with another association.
β’ If SCMHA does not offer a U11 AA team, players may request a release to attend U11 AA tryouts elsewhere.
π The player/goaltender has established residency within another association's boundaries, subject to Hockey Nova Scotia residency regulations.
Please Note: β Releases are not granted for B-level hockey, as per Hockey Nova Scotia regulations.
β Releases do not apply to U7 or U9 players, as per Hockey Nova Scotia regulations.
If a player or goaltender is released to attend tryouts with another association and is not selected by that program, they will return to SCMHA and register with SCMHA, paying the applicable registration fees.
All release requests are subject to Hockey Nova Scotia regulations and policies
β
New for 2026-2027: Players requesting a release no longer need to pay SCMHA registration fees before trying out elsewhere.

The municipality of Barrington is looking to host training for mature students who are interested in becoming swimming instructors.
This involves participation in the Bronze Medallion and Cross course. This will be a self-study program, with a few in-person sessions to assess knowledge, and a couple of in-person water sessions to work on swim and basic rescue skills, followed by a testing day where you put it all together.
After completing that, participants will be eligible to take either or both of the Swim for Life Instructor Course and/or the National Lifeguard course.
These are both in-person training with both classroom and in-water portions.
Note, we have not selected dates, but anticipate training through May and June, dependent on interest!
If you have questions, want to learn more, or be added to our call list when training is formalized, please give us a call at the Barrington RecPlex, 902-637-2760.
