Life gets busy, and it’s easy to put yourself at the bottom of the list.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself and putting in the work to get there. Find something you enjoy. Find good people. Keep showing up.

Why do we only offer Muay Thai?

Because we love it.

But also, we really believe there’s something to be said for focusing on one thing and doing it really well.

Muay Thai has so much depth to it. You can train for years and still be learning, refining and finding little things to get better at.

So instead of trying to offer a little bit of everything, we’ve chosen to put all of our time, energy and experience into one thing we genuinely love.

And somewhere along the way, all that time spent training together builds something pretty special too.

Good Muay Thai. Good people. That’s really it.

We don’t really feel the need to be anything else.

Muay Thai is enough for us. 🥊

This past weekend, our team travelled from Barrie to Ottawa to take part in an incredible two-day Muay Thai masterclass, celebrating 65 years of friendship between Canada and Thailand. 🇨🇦🇹🇭

It was such a great weekend of training, learning, and connecting with the Muay Thai community.

We’re grateful to Thai Festival Ottawa for bringing everyone together and hosting such a special event, and to Paul Chanachon/Satrawoot/Lamoon for the work he continues to put into the Muay Thai community and for always giving back by sharing the traditions, culture, and knowledge behind the sport.

So many people helped make the weekend what it was — Muaythai Canada Muaythai Ontario , the Sports Authority of Thailand, Ajahn, Kru Alin, the officials, organizers, and everyone working behind the scenes. We appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating opportunities like this for all of us.

Getting the chance to learn from legends in the sport is something we don’t take for granted. We came home with new knowledge, great memories, and a lot to bring back to our own community. Muay Thai in Canada is on the rise 🙏💪👍🙌

What started as a free community class officially became the Roots Women’s Muay Thai Program on September 1st… and somehow we’re already 13+ ladies strong with more joining every week. ♡

But the part I’m most proud of isn’t the number. It’s the environment.

No egos. No cliques. No gossip. A little healthy competition, but women genuinely wanting to see the woman beside them get better inside & outside the gym.

Some conversations lately have also been a reminder that saying “everyone is welcome” and actually feeling welcome are two different things. A gym can have 5 women or 50. Numbers don’t create community. How people treat each other does.

As we grow, this program will be capped. We believe in proper coaching, individual attention and enough room to actually throw a kick without taking out three innocent people in the process. 😂

So if you’ve been thinking about joining us, come try it. ♡ Memberships are available while spots remain.

And the sky is definitely NOT the limit…

You get 24 hours every day.

How much of that time is dedicated to improving you?
Even one hour.

One hour to get stronger.
One hour to build confidence.
One hour to challenge yourself.
One hour that is completely yours.

You give your time to work, family, responsibilities, and everyone around you.

Give some of it back to yourself.
Do it for you. 🥊

What makes our Kids Program at Roots a little different?

For us, it’s always been important that we’re actually teaching Muay Thai, not just keeping kids busy.

Our Kids Program is for ages 7–12, with four one-hour classes available every week:

🥊 Monday 5–6 PM
🥊 Wednesday 5–6 PM
🥊 Friday 5–6 PM
🥊 Saturday 11:30 AM–12:30 PM

Having that consistency gives us time to actually work on things. We can introduce a skill, drill it, come back to it later in the week, make corrections and build on it instead of trying to cram everything into one class.

We also keep our class sizes manageable and have multiple instructors on the mats. Our instructors don’t just get thrown into teaching either — the go through the correct process and learn how we structure the program, how we teach and what we expect when working with the kids.

Having more eyes on the mats makes a huge difference too. Some kids need a little extra help, some need something explained a different way, and some are ready to be challenged a little more.

Of course we want them to work hard, have fun and leave class tired. But we also want them to leave having learned something.

Proper Muay Thai, strong fundamentals, discipline, confidence, teamwork and skills they can keep building on week after week.

That’s what we’re trying to create with our kids at Roots. 🥊

September just has that fresh start feeling. 🍂🥊

Summer is winding down. The kids are back to school. Vacations are wrapping up. Schedules are getting back to normal. And maybe it’s time to make yourself part of the routine again.

Whether you’re getting back into training or you’ve been thinking about trying Muay Thai for the first time, September is a pretty good time to start.

No New Year’s resolution required. 😉
