TUESDAY TECH TIP

Lose the Tank Boots — Especially for Technical Diving

Tank boots may look like they’re protecting your cylinders, but for technical and cave diving they can create more problems than they solve.

Why tech divers often ditch them:

🔹 Better trim: Boots can add unnecessary bulk and change how the cylinder sits in the water.
🔹 Easier cylinder handling: Smooth-bottom cylinders slide into position more easily when staging or manipulating bottles.
🔹 Less snag potential: Boots can catch on lines, restrictions, or other equipment.
🔹 Better configuration: Technical cylinders are designed to be secured with bands, boltsnaps, and proper rigging—not standing upright on the bottom.
🔹 Less unnecessary equipment: In technical diving, simple and streamlined is usually better.

Remember: Tank boots have their place in recreational diving, but when you’re building a streamlined technical configuration, every piece of equipment should have a purpose.
