โš ๏ธ Important Safety Reminder โ€“ Lakemount Road Bridge โš ๏ธ

Members travelling to the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club are reminded that northbound traffic must yield at the one-lane bridge to any vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians already on the bridge.

Please slow down and use extra caution on the bridge and the road immediately after it. Following an incident last week in which a dog was struck, police are expected to be monitoring this area for traffic violations.

Letโ€™s do our part to keep Lakemount Road safe for everyone including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, pets, and wildlife.

Please remember:
โ€ข Yield when travelling northbound toward the club
โ€ข Watch for cyclists and pedestrians
โ€ข Reduce speed on and after the bridge
โ€ข Drive courteously and attentively

Your cooperation helps protect our community and reflects positively on our club.

Thank you for driving safely. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšด๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ•

For seven days this month, the Prince George Rod and Gun Club will be the place to be to watch Canadaโ€™s top handgun target shooters compete for the honour of being a national champion.

The 2026 Canadian Handgun International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Nationals start on Monday, July 27 and run through Sunday, Aug. 2, and with 330 competitors coming to the city the host club needs a little help getting ready for it.

Itโ€™s recognized as the largest shooting competition in the country and to accommodate that many shooters the club will be building several carport-like metal structures to shield them from the weather elements. To get them built over the next few weeks the club has put the call out for volunteers to lend a hand.

If you would like to help or know somebody whoโ€™s willing, email club vice-president Andrew Tomlinson at [email protected] or [email protected].

The structures and other upgrades will remain in place after the national championships for the use of club members for practice and future competitions.

The club has two shooting range facilities, both located on the southwestern outskirts of the city.

The main facility at 9444 Hartman Rd. covers 100 acres and is the largest range in Northern BC. It has 100-metre and 200-metre rifle ranges, several handgun ranges, a small-bore silhouette range, shotgun/black powder ranges and an indoor air gun range.

The Blackwater facility has a 1,400-metre rifle range and seven action bays for handgun shooting, multigun practice and training.

This is a busy summer for the PGRGC, which is also hosting the BC Provincial Rifle Silhouette Championships, Aug. 15-18. That competition is divided into two days of small-bore shooting, Aug. 15-16, and two days of high-power trigger action, Aug. 17-18.

The clubโ€™s extreme long range program is hosting the ELR Team Challenge, with targets set between 849 metres and 1,374 metres, on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11.

Shooters wonโ€™t have quite so far to lock in their sights at the ELR Blackjack Challenge on Sept. 19, with targets placed at 1,100-1,200 metres.

Established in June 1946, the Prince George Rod and Gun Club is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Prince George.

Thank BCWF for your ongoing advocacy.

Good News!

As a result of BCWF advocacy on Bill 4 the Firearm Violence Prevention Act a number of provisions which would have had devastating impacts on rifle ranges, and fi****ms owners have now been excluded through Order In Council 156/2026.

These exemptions include Part 4 which would have required most ranges to have a Range Officer on premises to check ID of every participant, including youth, as well as maintain a log of users. The regulations would have cost ranges tens of thousands of dollars per year, effectively shuttering numerous ranges in B.C.

The BCWF remains concerned about Part 8, which authorizes medical professionals to breach confidentiality with their patients. Members of our committee include veterans have raised concerns that individuals living with PTSD may avoid seeking help if health care providers might report them.

The BCWF will continue to advocate on behalf of our members, lawful fi****ms owners and our clubs which operate safe and responsible shooting ranges many of which currently allow access to Provincial and Federal agency training.

To see a list of the exceptions please go to Order in Council 156/2026 - https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/oic/oic_cur/0156_2026
