MATCHDAY PREPARATION | YOUNG MARES IN ACTION

Our Botswana U-17 Girls National Team (Young Mares) are currently taking on Gaborone United U13 Mixed Team in a practice match at Lekidi Football Centre as they fine-tune preparations for the UNAF Women's U17 Four Nations Tournament.

BFA EQUIPS TEACHER COACHES THROUGH CAF C COACHING COURSE UNDER FIFA U-15 GIRLS PILOT PROJECT

The Botswana Football Association (BFA), through its Coaching Education Department, has commenced a BFA CAF C Coaching Course in Mahalapye as part of preparations for the rollout of the FIFA U-15 Girls League Pilot Project.

The coaching course is a key component of the FIFA Women's Football Strategy, which aims to increase participation, strengthen player development pathways, and accelerate the growth of women's football globally. The initiative is supported by FIFA through the FIFA Women's Football Development Programme, reaffirming the organisation's commitment to developing the women's game from the grassroots.

The first phase of the course began on 13 July 2026 at Mahalapye Secondary School and will run for eight full days, equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical coaching skills.

A total of 30 student coaches are taking part in the programme, including 14 female teacher coaches and 16 male coaches, reflecting BFA's commitment to building an inclusive and well-trained coaching workforce capable of nurturing young talent.

Delivered under the FIFA U-15 Girls Pilot Project, the course is designed to empower teacher coaches with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to develop young footballers, particularly girls, at the grassroots level. By investing in teacher coaches, the programme seeks to establish sustainable football structures within schools and communities while creating more opportunities for young girls to participate in the game.

The course is facilitated by FIFA and CAF Accredited Coach Educator Mr Odirile China Matlhaku, while Mr Morake Lengwadibe serves as the Course Coordinator. In his role, Mr Lengwadibe oversees the planning, administration and logistical coordination of the programme to ensure its smooth and effective delivery.

The FIFA U-15 Girls Pilot Project is focused on strengthening the capacity of teacher coaches through internationally recognised coach education. By enhancing their technical expertise, the project aims to create safe, inclusive and player-centred football environments where young girls can learn, develop and thrive.

Through initiatives such as the BFA CAF C Coaching Course, the Botswana Football Association continues to invest in coach education and capacity building, reinforcing its commitment to developing qualified coaches who will play a vital role in advancing grassroots football and supporting the long-term growth of women's football in Botswana, in line with the objectives of the FIFA Women's Football Strategy and the FIFA Women's Football Development Programme.

DATES CONFIRMED FOR 2026 CAF WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | COSAFA QUALIFIER

The dates for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifier have been confirmed, with Gaborone, Botswana, set to host the regional tournament from 20–29 August 2026.

The official draw for the competition will be conducted on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, when the participating clubs will discover their group-stage opponents and tournament pathway.

Hosts Gaborone United head into the competition as the reigning COSAFA Women’s Champions League Qualifier champions, having claimed the regional title in 2025.

They will be aiming to defend their crown on home soil and once again secure qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League
