The Bhutan Badminton Federation is pleased to share an important general announcement for all registered participants of the Open Badminton Championship 2026, scheduled from 9–12 September 2026 at the Bebena Badminton Hall, Thimphu, Bhutan.

All participants, particularly our international participants, are kindly requested to carefully review the announcement for important information regarding reporting, travel and entry documents, immigration assistance, permit requirements, age verification for Veteran Categories, technical instructions, logistics, and registration fee payment.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Bhutan and wish all participants a safe journey and a successful Championship!

𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Bhutan’s para badminton athlete, Cheyang Kuenchap, accompanied by Mr. Dorji, National Coach, is currently undergoing an intensive training programme at the Gaurav Khanna Excellence High Performance Centre in Lucknow, India, as part of his preparations for the upcoming 5th Asian Para Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, to be held in Japan from 18–24 October 2026.

The training programme commenced on 19 August 2026 and will conclude on 1 September 2026.

The camp focuses on enhancing the athlete's technical, tactical, physical and mental preparation ahead of this important international competition. Training sessions are conducted from Monday to Saturday, with both morning and evening sessions, while Sundays are dedicated to rest and recovery.

This intensive preparation aims to ensure that he is physically and mentally ready to perform at his best and proudly represent Bhutan at the 5th Asian Para Games 2026.

Today, the Bhutan Badminton Federation successfully conducted “Inclusive Shuttle: Bringing Badminton to Children of All Abilities” in collaboration with Special Olympics Bhutan.

The programme brought together 120 participants, including students with intellectual disabilities, students and teachers from Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools, parents, and volunteers. It was a wonderful opportunity to promote inclusion and, most importantly, allow children of all abilities to experience the joy of badminton.

A key highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Bhutan Badminton Federation and Special Olympics Bhutan. The MOU marks our commitment to work together to create regular and sustainable opportunities for children and individuals of all abilities who are interested in badminton.

The initiative was supported by the BWF — Badminton World Federation (BWF) under its Social and Humanitarian Grant Programme, which made this programme possible.

A squad of four young Bhutanese badminton players, led by Coach Sherab Gyaltshen, is representing Bhutan at the Yonex-Sunrise International Challenge 2026, being held in Pune, India, from 25th–30th August 2026.

This international exposure provides our young athletes with a valuable opportunity to compete against strong players, gain experience, and further develop their skills on the international stage.

The Bhutan Badminton Federation extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of India and the Embassy of India, Thimphu, for their valuable funding support towards the participation of our junior players.

We also extend our appreciation to all our stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), schools, Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), parents, coaches, and everyone who continues to support the development of badminton and our young athletes.
