The story behind our Paramount Pendulum Squat.
About two years ago, I came across a Facebook Marketplace listing that immediately caught my attention.
Someone was selling a few machines together for €1,000 — including an extremely rare Paramount Pendulum Squat. A machine like this has a market value of around €10,000.
There was just one problem: five days earlier, I had broken my collarbone and had just undergone surgery.
But there was no way I was going to let this opportunity pass.
So I called my two friends, Loïc and Jonas, and we drove more than 2.5 hours from Evergem to Liège to pick it up.
When we got there, we discovered that the machine weighed around 400 kg and, to make things even more interesting, it was sitting in an attic on the second floor.
So there was only one option: take it apart completely.
For the next 4–5 hours, we dismantled the entire machine piece by piece.
With my arm still recovering, I obviously couldn’t do any of the heavy lifting, so Loïc and Jonas took care of most of that.
Eventually, we managed to get everything downstairs and loaded into the van.
Then came the drive home.
A Burger King stop at a gas station, followed by a flat tire, just to make sure we didn’t forget the day anytime soon.
It was a hell of a journey for one piece of equipment.
But two years later, that same Paramount Pendulum Squat is still here in our gym.
And knowing the story behind it makes it that much more special.
