Fifth GOLD medal for Belgium!!
Tennis Double Men: Emiel Schippers - Alan Bury (POL) vs Bayraktar - Oca (TUR) 7-5, 6-2

That match was spectacular because there was also a fierce battle between Emiel and the Turk Bayraktar the finalist of the Singles match! The camaraderie afterwards was really nice!

Futsal:

Injuries caused our team to lose! After a 2-0 lead at halftime, we made it 3-0 shortly after the break. After that, fatigue and additional injuries were the reason we let the match slip away. The players fought like lions but had to submit to a fresher Turkey side that could make constant substitutions. Nevertheless, throughout the entire tournament, we can be very proud of our young team, who had to play against players who were predominantly 2 or 3 years older. In short, our team deserved their place here, and this bodes well for the future!

Table Tennis:
10.15 delayed: Single 6-7th place: Tjenne De Meester vs loser Kulacho - Kamlyk (UKR) 0-3 = 8-11, 10-12, 10-12. Very good match!
10.45: Double Men 2nd round: De Meester + Spoljar (CRO) vs Ince - Yalcinkaya (TUR) 0-3 = 4-11, 7-11, 1-11
11.00: Double Men 3rd round: De Meester + Spoljar vs Boij - Joelsson (SWE) 0-3 = 3-11, 9-11, 2-11
15.00: Double Men 4th round: De Meester + Spoljar vs Kamlyk Kyrolo - Kulacho (UKR) 1-3 = 11-8, 7-11, 7-11, 3-11. First won set for Tjenne!

European Deaf Youth games Hannover 21.08.2026
What a day today!
We’re especially thrilled about Senne Laenens’ two gold medals, Emiel Schippers’ three spots in the finals (meaning three more gold or silver medals), the fantastic performance of our futsal team, which secured a convincing victory and will soon be competing for fifth place—knowing that our very young team could very well have won a medal given their previous performances and the opponents (Germany in the final and Hungary in the third- and fourth-place match).
It was also a good learning experience for our young table tennis player Tjenne, who—if he keeps up this pace—can continue to improve, especially since he hasn’t been playing for very long.
But there was also drama with Senne’s injury right before the 200-meter semifinal, in which he let an almost certain third gold medal slip through his fingers.
Unfortunately, there’s no track and field tomorrow, but there are three tennis finals at 9:00 a.m. (Mixed Doubles), 10:30 a.m. (Men’s Singles), and 2:00 p.m. (Men’s Doubles).
Table tennis at 10 a.m. (6th–7th place singles), 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. (men’s doubles)
There’s also the futsal match for 5th place against Turkey at 10:30 a.m.
You can find all the action photos at the bottom of a few other posts we shared today.
Below are a few more photos of Senne Laenens’ two medal ceremonies.
