Former Champions return to race at Bushy Park

A roll call of former Champion Drivers and Class Champions are lining up to return to Bushy Park Barbados in 10 days' time and race on the 2.01-kilometre International Circuit at the Fast Parts Caribbean GT Challenge (August 28-30).
Feature events of the three-day race weekend are two half-hour races comprising round four of the GT Challenge de las Américas, while the supporting programme compiled by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI) will showcase home-grown talent in the traditional BPMSI groups and 'spec' races for BMW hatchbacks and Trinidad & Tobago's (T&T) Mazda Miatas.
With approaching 40 entries received across the three categories, some hard-fought racing is on the cards. Group 2 includes two-time Champion Driver (2017 & '19) Andre Walcott in a Suzuki, while the Toyota Starlet list includes multiple Class Champion 'Snappa' Husbands, Danny Croney and Kirk Worrell.
BPMSI Champion Driver in 2016 Geoff Ullyett will drive his BMW M3, while Kyle Catwell (Audi TT-R), his father Norman (Volkswagen Golf GTI), Tremaine Forde-Catwell (Nissan 1200), Kyle King (Honda S2000) and Jeffrey O'Brien's Mazda RX-7 add to the variety.
After preparation for this weekend's (August 22/23) RallySprint and Speed Event, Adrenaline Rush Racing will move on to GT Challenge weekend. The team has two BPMSI Champion Drivers on the books, Jermin Pope (2015, Honda Civic) and Mark Thompson (2020, Toyota Starlet), while Mark's elder brother Kurt won the title at Old Bushy Park in 2012. Add in the BMWs of cousins Jayden and Sebastian Thompson and Jacob Mustor and they have their work cut out.
The T&T-based Mazda Caribbean Spec Miata Series also presents a high-class field, led by two-time Champion Driver Justin Wortman. Champion in 2022 and again last year, he is also a former winner at Bushy Park in his Miata, in the ULTRAFEST RallySprint in November 2022.
Miata Champion in 2023 and second to Christian Hospedales last year, David Coelho is well-known by local fans as a rally driver, but has this year spilt racing between the Miata at home and the McLaren Trophy Europe at iconic tracks such as Monza in Italy and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
Ryan Peyrau twice missed out on a Miata title, but has a solid Bushy Park record. He won 14 of 50 Suzuki Challenge Series Swift Cup races, winning the 2015/16 Season outright and the 2016/17 Winter Cup. Adding a final note of intrigue, while 2024 Champion Hospedales will not be here, his Miata - a Bushy Park winner, too - will be driven by Mark Thompson, who renews his rivalry with Peyrau after many battles in Swift Sports.

The Fast Parts Caribbean GT Challenge at Bushy Park Barbados (August 28-30) will feature round four of the GT Challenge de las Américas, with a full supporting programme. Founded in 2019 by Eduardo Aguilar, with the aim of bringing together the best cars in Latin America in a single series of races, the GT Challenge de las Américas has grown each year, expanding into the English-speaking Caribbean for the first time in 2026 with races in Guyana and Barbados.
