Flat shoulder turn - Over the top fix.

This is a short clip from a recent online lesson.

If you’re struggling with a flatter backswing turn which usually results in the shoulders steepening in transition and forcing the arms and club outward, here’s a drill to try.

For more info on coaching options feel free to reach out or hit the link in my bio to start with a free swing analysis.

Online client progress.

I’ve been working with Ryan for 4 weeks now, completely online.

These are some of the harder changes we will have to make, shifting the mindset that’s needed to change a release pattern that’s always been there is tough, but this is some great progress.

This started with an initial free swing analysis before he committed to coaching. If you’d like info on how to receive a free swing analysis just reply ‘ANALYSIS’ and I’ll send the info over.

Creating width in the backswing.

This is a short clip from a longer online lesson.

Talking to a golfers who is struggling to create ‘width’ in their backswing by consciously trying to keep the lead arm straight.

If this happens I find a golfer reacts faster to thinking about creating the width from their trail arm instead.

Trying to reach your trail hand as far up the wall as possible will automatically create the stretch and extension of the lead arm.

If consciously trying to straighten the lead arm isn’t doing the trick, give this a try.

Side note, the lead doesn’t have to be as straight as you can possibly get it, some softness is absolutely fine.

My friend used to work on LIV and commented this on a previous Cam Smith putting video.

Create your desired speed with the backswing, not the follow through.

Trail shoulder movement.

The cue that I see generally work best for golfers is to try and move their trail shoulder up and behind their head in the backswing.

The lead shoulder will move across but using that cue could cause excessive lateral movement.

If you’re someone that struggles with moving your upper body too far off the ball in the backswing, give this drill a try.

Comment ‘TAKEAWAY’ to receive a video with more drills to help your takeaway.

This is a recent clip from an online lesson.

This golfers pattern is extremely common, the club rolls behind them early, shaft pitch gets very shallow half way back, then across the line at the top. This creates a steep shaft on the way down which they then ‘fix’ with a late shallowing move which needs to be saved with the hands through the ball.

Changing the club head to hand relationship could have a snowball effect on the rest of the swing.

This is a great drill to perform between shots on the range to create the feels needed on your swing.

Controlling the overtaking rate of the club head to the hands is a skill, learn it.

Adding spine extension.

This is a short clip from a longer form video for an online client.

If you’re struggling to stay centred in your backswing or to create enough arm lift, adding some extension could be what you need.

This drill gives feedback as to whether you are achieving a neutral spine angle in the backswing and getting the vertebrae ‘stacked’.
