Smiles, laughter and friendly competition were the order of the day at Wynnum Croquet Club's Gala Day. With no handicap points at stake, players were free to relax, enjoy the company of fellow croquet enthusiasts, and simply savour the game. The atmosphere was filled with good sportsmanship, plenty of conversation, and just enough healthy rivalry to keep everyone on their toes. A wonderful day of croquet shared with friends, both old and new.

Croquet isn't just about the shot you play. It's also about what you do while waiting for your turn!
Take a look around the courts and you'll notice that players develop their own signature stance. The classic favourite has to be the "hand on hip" while casually leaning on the mallet, sometimes with legs neatly crossed as if posing for a magazine cover.
Others prefer the "behind-the-back" stance, holding the mallet like a parade rest, patiently watching.
These relaxed poses have become part of the rhythm of the game. They reflect concentration, patience and perhaps just a little comfort between shots. Every experienced player seems to have a favourite, and before long, newcomers develop one too!

Lawn looping is a fun croquet practice game that focuses on accuracy rather than winning a full match.
The aim is simple:
A ball is placed at a designated starting point.
The player tries to run each hoop in the correct order.
Every stroke counts.
If the ball misses a hoop, the player keeps trying until it goes through.
The winner is the player who completes all the hoops using the fewest strokes.
You're trying to guide a ball cleanly through each hoop with as few shots as possible.
Why play lawn looping?
It improves hoop-running accuracy.
It helps players judge strength and direction.
It builds confidence with different types of shots.
It's suitable for beginners and experienced players alike.
It's a great social competition because everyone can play at their own pace.
Lawn looping is often used for club competitions or practice sessions. Because every shot counts, careful planning is just as important as good technique. A well-placed, gentle stroke is usually better than a powerful hit that leaves a difficult next shot.
Lawn looping is about developing precision, patience, and consistency while having fun on the lawn.

Opps! Just to clear up any misunderstanding - Carol who is holding up the Qld state team jacket is not part of the state team this year that honour belongs to Gordon Giles who was unavailable.

There are many jackets you can buy, but only one that must be earned.
For members of the Queensland State Croquet Team, receiving the official State Team jacket is a special privilege. It represents countless hours of practice, dedication, perseverance, and outstanding performances on the court. Every time it is worn, it reflects not only individual achievement but also the honour of representing Queensland and inspiring others to strive for their own goals.
At Wynnum Croquet Club, we are incredibly proud of Gordon Giles who has earned the right to wear the maroon State Team jacket. Wear it with pride. You've earned every stitch of it.
Congratulations to all our Queensland representatives

Rain wasn't enough to stop the Queensland State Croquet Team from honing their skills at Wynnum Croquet Club today.
Despite the drizzle, the players took to the courts with determination, proving that a little wet weather is no match for dedication and a passion for the game. The conditions may have been challenging, but they also provided valuable practice for the kind of weather that can appear during major tournaments.
Wynnum Croquet Club was proud to host the team and wishes them every success as they continue their preparations for upcoming interstate competition. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly, rain and all!
