The Transverse Abdominus is one of your core bracing muscles.
Like all muscles, the more you work it the stronger it gets 💪
When I started moving post surgery, it was difficult to externally feel the activation of my TA. Internally I could feel it but it felt very weak and justifiably so. My musculosketal changes, meant I needed a little time to navigate that activation.
Fast forward about 8wks from clearance to exercise and I'm moving everyday in some capacity.
3days per week of strength training with the alternate day being reformer footwork (in the video), some ab exercise, alongside with some mobility work.
I decided to see how my TA feels from the outside for the first time since I first started. And commitment pays off! While I'm still working on the endurance side of things, the change in activation is amazing.
How do you feel it? Find the high point of your pelvis, slide the fingers just on the inside, apply a small amount of pressure (dont bruise the banana pressure), and brace. You might feel it, you might not.
Just remember if you can't feel it, don't be disheartened as every body is different!
