SWORDS is the University of Wollongong's Debating Society, and open to all past and present UOW students. We participate in Intervarsity debating tournaments and aim to develop our members public speaking skills in a community environment. We're all very excited to announce that we're bidding to host Australs 2026!!
This will be the first student-run Australs since 2018, first in Australia since 2017 and first time we've ever hosted Australs if successful!
We're very excited for what's to come and hope the community can get behind the bid below!

EASTERS CONTINGENT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

We're under a week away from Melbourne Easters, and it's time to announce our club's biggest EVER contingent, including 6 teams and 6 adjudicators representing UOW next week!
We're so thrilled to be sending this many people to Easters this year, including many first-time debaters and adjudicators!
We'd like to recognise our executive's hard work and efforts in building the club's membership base and for bringing this contingent together.

Our New Members Brunch Social will be a great way to get to know UOW and our club and meet new people!

Starting university or joining a new club can be daunting, but this will be a nice chance to ease into the semester.

We do our absolute best to ensure we create a safe, welcoming environment for all members and are open to all regardless of background or experience.

We hope to see you at Hemingway Cafe on campus at 10:30, Thursday 13th March (Week 2)!

CDC Wrap-Up

The first in-person tournament of the year is done and starting off with success!

UOW's all-novice team (the only one at the comp) of Angus, Callum and Lachlan finished the tournament with 3/5 wins in a highly competitive tournament, only missing out on the break by speaks!
Angus finished 8th best novice!
Callum finished 9th best novice!
