In their words 🌿

As we move towards the end of our Winter Moving with Chi series, I’ve been asking participants what is unique about the weekly experience.

One person shared that they can sense what’s happening internally. The practice shifts their attention away from the many tasks of everyday life and brings them back to themselves.

I love holding this space for people to pause.
To notice your body.
To notice your breath.
To notice yourself.

And for an hour a week, to step away from doing and simply be present.

As we move towards spring, I’m looking forward to continuing this exploration together. 🌱

Just before our morning session, this little gift really lifted my spirits. Especially after a demanding week outside of the studio.

For me, teaching dance and movement is not about expecting perfection (although there are times and places for that).
It's about meeting people where they are, on the day they show up. In the moment of moving in space.
It's about creating a sensory experience that is grounding & fun. Depending on the style, it could also bring sparkles of energy! ✨⭐️

I love holding space for each person to feel at ease in their own home. That being their unique body 💚👣🌱

Knowing that my work reflects my purpose means a lot. Thanks, Nicole.

It's also been a privilege to share my ongoing exploration of my culture roots with others, through Qi Gong. And to see others connect to it in their own way.

Why is Chi/Qi Gong so slow?

Because moving slowly has benefits. It helps improve balance and coordination, increases body awareness and encourages relaxation through gentle breathing.

🌿 New winter series for absolute beginners begins this month in Winmalee. If you’ve been curious to try Qi Gong, we’d love to welcome you.

As I walked in the Grand Canyon, I noticed the supple movement of this little fern 🌿 For me, it embodied the connection with nature that we can return to through practice.

In Qigong sessions, we have been exploring mobility in the spine. Traditionally, it is sometimes referred to as the ‘Heavenly Pillar’, a central axis connecting the body to the earth and heavens.

As we slowly move each part of the spine and notice the sensations within it, we deepen our awareness of how we move, breathe, and hold tension. Gentle spinal movement supports the flow of energy along the Du Mai (督脉), the central meridian that runs along the spine. ✨

From an anatomical perspective, the spine is designed for sequential movement. Each vertebra contributes small amounts of motion that together create fluidity and strength. Gentle spinal movement can also help regulate the nervous system, supporting overall wellbeing.

In facilitating this practice, I love bringing together these different ways of understanding the body, the embodied wisdom cultivated through Qigong alongside the tangible frameworks of Western anatomy.

This allows movement to be both deeply felt and understood. 🌱
