Pizza night next Tuesday, where we will wish our Avon Descent paddlers all the best and perhaps do a little rain dance to get some much-needed water in the river.

Tuesday 14th July 2026 Club Night
19 paddlers took to the water. The level was at 0mm on the Gardiner water meter and dropping. Despite the low tide and being mid-winter, it was another lovely night, with a mild temperature, clear skies and no wind.
Upstream course. For most to Riverton Bridge, with a couple opting for an earlier turn at the pipeline before heading back to the Sailing Club.
Most paddlers were too optimistic with their nominations, seemingly not accounting enough for the slowing effect of shallow water.
Jake Hammond though can hold his head high with a sharp time that was not only the fastest on the night, but the only one who went faster than forecast.
Tonight’s winner was Peter Ferguson whose race time was just four seconds from what he nominated.
Thanks timers Phil and Chris.
