In many koryū traditions, the visible form of a kata does not exhaust the technique’s meaning. What is shown outwardly may serve as an entry point into principles, applications, and tactical variations that are disclosed progressively through direct instruction, oral transmission, and the internal pedagogy of the ryūha.
