The days are starting to get longer, there’s that change in the air… and it can only mean one thing.

🔥 THE MAD MILE IS BACK! 🔥

Another daylight-saving-filled summer of Tuesday night Mad Miles is almost here.

Often referred to as cycling’s unofficial 6th Monument 😏, rumour has it a few of the local hitters already have their eyes on the KOM for the fastest Mad Mile time.

The benchmark has been set — and it’s a fast one. Can the local lads set a new record this summer? They’ll need fast legs, good weather and maybe a little bit of luck with the wind. 🔥🚴💨

But the Mad Mile isn’t just about chasing times. We’ll have separate recreational and competitive groups, so whether you want to have a crack, get some solid kilometres in, or simply enjoy a summer evening on the bike, all riders are welcome.

🚴🔥 FRIDAY NIGHTS AT THE VELODROME ARE BACK — AND THIS YEAR WE’RE GOING BIGGER! 🔥🚴

Track Season kicks off Friday 16th October from 6pm, and this year we want Friday nights at the Whyalla Cycling Club to be about much more than just racing.

We want the velodrome buzzing. Bikes everywhere. Kids riding. Track racing under the lights. Families around the clubrooms. Food coming out of the canteen, drinks from the bar and plenty happening both on AND off the track!

🚵 NEW THIS SEASON — CYCLOCROSS IN THE INFIELD!

For the first time, we’ll be setting up a fun Cyclocross-style circuit right in the middle of the velodrome for kids, MTB riders and anyone who just wants to ride a bike!

And the best part?

👉 YOU DON’T HAVE TO RIDE THE VELODROME TO BE PART OF FRIDAY NIGHT!

Bring the kids. Bring their MTBs. Bring your own bike. Come down, have a ride, grab something from the canteen and enjoy the atmosphere.

We want to make the club a place where everyone feels welcome — whether you're racing flat-out on the track, having your first go on the infield, or simply coming down with the family to watch and enjoy the night.

And if watching the track riders gets you thinking “I reckon I could have a go at that…” — even better! 😎

Never ridden the velodrome before? Come and learn! All riders and abilities are welcome.

🚴 SATURDAY MORNING ROAD RIDE – IRON K**B ROAD 🚴

We’re heading out again this Saturday morning, and everyone is welcome.

We’ll roll out from the Graeme Jose Memorial Velodrome at 9am sharp, heading out along Iron K**b Road.

We’ll have separate social and competitive groups, so you don’t need to be a racer or worry about keeping up with the quicker riders. Come along for a social spin, get some kilometres in, or have a solid hit-out with the competitive group.

☕ And arguably the most important part — coffee and toasties back at the clubrooms after the ride!

We’re heading out to **Iron Baron** this Saturday for a 50 km road ride, and everyone is welcome.

🚴 **Route:** Iron Baron turn off → Iron Baron → return
📏 **Distance:** Approx. 50 km

Whether you’re looking to have a **competitive hit-out** or just want to come along for a **social ride**, we’d love to see you there.

Leigh Hoffman has done it again!

🥇 **Gold** in the Men's 1000m Time Trial!

Not traditionally regarded as Leigh's specialist event, he exploded from the start gate with incredible speed and powered his way to another **Commonwealth Games Record** and another **gold medal**.

That wraps up an unforgettable Commonwealth Games campaign:

**Three gold medals and one silver from four events.**

An absolutely phenomenal performance from Whyalla's own. The entire community couldn't be prouder.

🏆 HE'S DONE IT! COMMONWEALTH GAMES CHAMPION! 🇦🇺🥇

Leigh Hoffman is the 2026 Commonwealth Games Men's Individual Sprint Champion!

What an absolutely monumental achievement.

It's 3:00 am, and for those of us who stayed up to watch history unfold, it's hard to put into words what this moment means. To witness a local kid from Whyalla stand on top of the Commonwealth Games podium is something we'll never forget.

This isn't just a win for Leigh. It's a proud moment for the Hoffman family, the Whyalla Cycling Club, and the entire Whyalla community. Generations of volunteers, coaches, training partners and supporters have all played a part in this incredible journey.

Leigh, you've inspired an entire town tonight. You've shown every young rider who rolls into our club that dreams really can become reality.

What a night for Australian cycling, and what a proud moment for the Whyalla Cycling Club!

Our very own Leigh Hoffman has helped Australia storm to Commonwealth Games GOLD in the Men's Team Sprint at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games! 🇦🇺💚💛

From countless hours pounding laps around the Whyalla Velodrome to standing on top of the Commonwealth podium, Leigh's journey is a testament to years of dedication, sacrifice and relentless hard work.

Everyone at WCC couldn't be prouder to call Leigh one of our own. He continues to inspire the next generation of riders and shows what's possible when talent meets determination.

Congratulations also to his Australian teammates on an incredible ride and a well-deserved gold medal.
