Capoeira is a traditional Afro-Brazilian martial art form that incorporates music and acrobatic movements, practiced as a 'game' of agility and precision.

Xango Capoeira Group was founded by Mestre Luizinho Barravento in Australia 2011. The group, however, have been operating in Australia since 1997 under the name Zambiacongo which was founded by Luizinho's father, Mestre Geni in Salvador - Bahia, Brazil. In Brisbane the group is led by Contra-Mestre Caracol (Claudio Climaco) who established the Brisbane Capoeira School in 1999. Xango Capoeira's mai

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since the start of our festival. It was a great achievement for our school, and it would not have been possible without the support and hard work of my family.

Having my beautiful children and my younger brothers be part of this journey makes it even more special.

Thank you, meu pai, Mestre Coração Tarcísio Teatini-Climaco, for bringing Capoeira into my life and for always being such an inspiration and motivation.

Thank you, Mainha, Jada De Goey Teatini-Climaco, for taking on all the extra grandparent duties that week so we could focus on making the festival happen.

A big shout-out to Rio Rhythmics for so generously opening your doors to us and for continually supporting the growth of Capoeira in our community.

A very special thank you to my amazing wife, Instrutora Cinderela Géraldine Edmée Bernard.

There is so much work you do for our school that people never get to see. You share the load through all the tough moments and difficult decisions. You’re always thinking ahead, making sure everything has been thought of, and making sure everyone is looked after. So often you put everyone else’s needs before your own.

Thank you for always being there beside me. I’m so lucky to have you by my side.

I love you.

I’m truly blessed.

To our Xango Brisbane family:

Thank you to all my students for your commitment and dedication to Capoeira and our school. It is an honour to be part of your Capoeira journey.

It brings me so much joy to help new beginners discover Capoeira, and it is incredibly rewarding to be there through all the stages, challenges, and achievements that help us grow within this art. Thank you for your trust in me. I am truly fortunate to have you by my side.

Congratulations to everyone on the new levels you achieved. You earned them through your hard work, perseverance, and dedication, and I could not be prouder of what you have accomplished.

A special thank you to my teaching crew for everything you do to help maintain and grow our school. I don’t think I have acknowledged enough the time, effort, and commitment that each of you invests in both our school and this event.

Together, we were able to put our vision and values into practice by hosting a welcoming event built on strong foundations, respectful and challenging games, and high-energy rodas. Thank you for all the fundraising initiatives, to everyone who participated, and to all those who stepped up during the event to help things run smoothly.

This festival was truly a team effort, and it only happened because of the contribution of so many people working together toward a shared goal.

My heart is full, my batteries are recharged, and I am excited for what lies ahead for us.

Let’s go!

To our local QLD Capoeira community:

Thank you, Mestre Jansen, Contramestre Pequeno, Mestrando Pererê, Contramestre Neguinho, and Professora Madeira, for your presence, support, and ongoing camaraderie.

It is a privilege to work alongside leaders who share a common goal of building a welcoming and supportive Capoeira community. Together, we created a safe and respectful environment where our schools can come together, interact, and learn from one another.

A special thank you to all of your students who joined us and contributed to the incredible atmosphere throughout the festival. Your energy and participation helped make the event such a success.

A big thank you to our Xangô GC brothers and sisters: Professor Rocha, Instructors Cutia, Shino, and Superman, Graduados Manga Rosa and Broto, and all of Mestre Luizinho’s students who attended.

You are all an essential part of making events like this possible. Your support, dedication, and commitment to our community are greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for being part of this journey.
