It’s not too late to join us!

We are incredibly lucky to have Baz Arnold visiting us from Melbourne this weekend, sharing his knowledge, experience and beautiful understanding of Argentine Tango with our Townsville dance community.

Opportunities to learn from teachers of Baz’s calibre don’t come along every day — and you do not need to be an experienced Tango dancer to benefit. Today begins right at the heart of Tango: connection, the embrace, movement and learning how two people communicate without words.

3:15pm — Introduction to Milonga

Then we continue tomorrow with Vals, Colgadas and a guided Práctica.

Tonight we’re thrilled to welcome Baz Arnold from Melbourne, who’ll be taking our beginner class! If you’ve ever wanted to try Argentine Tango, this is a brilliant opportunity to learn from an experienced visiting teacher.

No experience and no partner needed. Complete beginners are absolutely welcome.

Global Dance Collective is opening our Term Four courses to COMPLETE BEGINNERS — and absolutely no dance experience is needed!

Starting in early October, you can step onto the dance floor and learn from the very beginning:

💃 Cuban Salsa — vibrant, social and full of Cuban flavour. Learn the foundations, rhythm, partner work and movement that make Cuban Salsa so addictive.

🔥 Bachata — smooth, fun and incredibly social. A beautiful introduction to partner dancing with easy-to-follow foundations to get you moving with confidence.

✨ Urban Kiz — modern, connected and seriously cool. Learn the fundamentals of connection, musicality and movement in this contemporary partner dance style.

🌙 Egyptian Belly Dance — discover strength, musicality, beautiful movement and body awareness while learning the foundations of this incredible dance form.

You do NOT need:
• A dance partner
• Previous experience
• To be “coordinated” before you start
• To already know what you’re doing!

That’s exactly what beginner classes are for. ❤️

Our courses run for 10 weeks, giving you the time to actually learn, build confidence and become part of a welcoming dance community.

Never danced Bachata before? Perfect. This class is for you.

Join us tonight for a fun, relaxed Beginner Bachata drop-in class where we’ll take you through the foundations step by step.

✨ No experience needed
✨ No partner needed
✨ Complete beginners welcome
✨ Come on your own or bring a friend!

We’ll work on the basic Bachata rhythm, movement, connection and simple partnerwork you can actually use on the dance floor.

Today felt like one of those beautiful days that reminds me why I love being part of Townsville’s creative community.

The Townsville Medieval and Fantasy Festival was absolutely magical — a gathering of artists, makers, performers, families and wonderfully curious souls, all coming together to create something that felt like stepping outside of ordinary life for a little while.

I was so incredibly proud of our beautiful dancers from Global Dance Collective. Watching them share their joy, colour, movement and spirit with the festival crowd filled my heart. There is something very special about seeing the people you teach step forward and simply shine. Thank you to every one of you who danced today and represented our little dance family with such warmth and generosity.

And then there was Talisman Spirit.

I don’t quite have the words for what it felt like to watch so many people stop at my stall, pick up something I had made with my own hands, connect with it… and then take it home with them.

Every talisman, enchanted brim and little creation began quietly at my table — made slowly, intuitively and with so much love. Seeing them leave today in the hands of people who genuinely felt something for them was incredibly moving. I kept thinking, this is why we make things. Somewhere along the way, they stop belonging to the maker and find the person they were meant for.

Thank you to everyone who visited my stall, shared a conversation, admired something, bought something, watched our dancers or simply stopped to say hello. You made today so special.

And an enormous thank you to the organisers and everyone behind the Townsville Medieval and Fantasy Festival. The work that goes into creating an event like this is immense, and what you created today was full of imagination, community, creativity and heart. Townsville is richer for events like this and for the people who pour themselves into making them happen.

Tonight I am tired, grateful, and feeling very full-hearted.

For the dancing.
For the creating.
For the people who came.
And for the beautiful reminder that there is still so much magic to be found when a community gathers together. 🖤
