Round 4 of the QLD Sportscar Championship is now run and won at Queensland Raceway on Saturday 1st August.

The meeting was our best field of the year with seven competitors in Sportscars. Everyone ran trouble free, the racing was close and as usual no car to car contact. We also welcomed two new competitors: Jaidan Geldard and Dean Harris.

It was an outstanding race meeting for Carmelo Bonaventura who completed a clean sweep in the Radical class, Pole in Quali and 1st in all three races. The best bit was that he was super quick in the 2021 SR3 XX achieving numerous sub 1:10 laps with the best time of 1:09.795. There haven’t ever been many faster laps of Queensland Raceway in a Radical SR3.

Grant Green was competing in his stunning new 2024 Radical SR3 XXR and set several PBs. With similar lap times, Michael McMillan and Grant Green raced closely all day with Grant finishing in second place in each race.

Jaidan Geldard, who has stepped up from kart racing is racing in the ex Grant Green Radical. Despite this being his first race car his lap times were super impressive with him bettering times that Grant has achieved when he owned the car.

Dean Harris has returned to race with us in his own 2022 SR3 XX having last raced with us in 2018 in a Paul Stokell SR3. While Dean claimed to be rusty he very quickly got into the groove.

Kirk Batchelor has continued running a 1340cc Radical motor while his 1500cc motor is being repaired. While he may have been down on his normal power level he set PBs as well.

Dave Barram was the sole Supersports class competitor in his newly acquired Minetti. This was his 2nd race meeting in the car and he achieved a PB of 1:13.3 to be the fastest Minetti around QR, 1.2 seconds faster than the previous best time, with a stock Gen 2 Hayabusa engine. We are expecting more Minettis soon.

We are all looking forward to the next race meeting on 19 & 20 September again at QR.

It was a short event but one to remember. A great day for Carmelo taking out first place followed closely by Grant and Mick. A special mention to Dave for his win and Jaidan’s first race with the Sportscars! We’ll be back for another action packed weekend in September.
