Two of the finest open sides the game has produced. Both defined as much by what they stood for as what they scored. Richie McCaw led the All Blacks to back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories with a consistency and quiet authority that the game has rarely seen. David Pocock brought that same intensity to the Wallabies for over a decade — and then took it to the Australian Senate, where he has continued to ask the hard questions with exactly the same precision he showed at the breakdown.

Final Hexagon Game for 2026

Wahroonga Tigers Rugby Club did a cracking job hosting the final Hexagon game of the season, putting on a great night for everyone involved. Thanks Lads

A big thank you to all the Hornsby Golden Oldies - Busted Lions who pulled on the boots throughout the year, as well as the players from the other clubs who helped make the competition such a success. The camaraderie, sportsmanship, and friendships built through Hexagon rugby are what make it so special, and it's fantastic to see the concept going from strength to strength.

A special thanks to Matt and Mark for all their hard work in organising and driving the competition throughout the season. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and we're already looking forward to next year.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the Busted Lions' partners, families, supporters, and volunteers. Your support throughout the season makes everything we do possible and is genuinely appreciated.

Hornsby Golden Oldies - Busted Lions Gala Day 2026

As another season starts to draw to a close, the Hornsby Golden Oldies - Busted Lions held our annual Golden Oldies Gala Day today.

While a few late withdrawals across all clubs saw numbers a little lighter than expected, it certainly didn't dampen the spirit of the day. We still managed to get enough players on the paddock for a couple of cracking games, plenty of laughs, and some great old-school Golden Oldies rugby.

A huge thank you to the players from Engadine Lions Rugby Union Club, Engadine Golden Oldies Limping Lions, Penrith Legless Emus, KWP Leo's Rugby, Withered Oaks Rugby Club and Central Coast Seagulls who made the effort to get there and support the day.

Your support, camaraderie, and willingness to pull on the boots and enjoy a run made for a fantastic afternoon. One of the best things about Golden Oldies rugby is catching up with old mates, making new ones, and enjoying the friendship that our game creates, both on and off the field.

Thanks again, lads. We appreciate the support and look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Hi All,

Due to a few unforeseen circumstances, we had to postpone our Gala Night. However, all is not lost! We're now putting on a bigger and better Gala Day, combining our event with the Eastwood Charcoals over 35's Rugby Union Club’s cancelled fixtures.

We're calling on all Hornsby Over 35s, Hexagon Rugby, Golden Oldies clubs, and old rugby mates to dust off the boots and join us for a run around the paddock. Let's make it a cracking day of friendship, fun, and a bit of champagne rugby.

A couple of things happening this weekend you might want to get along to.

Saturday the Penrith Emus Rugby Club are playing their first Grand Final since Kevin Costner was Whitney Houston’s bodyguard. If you can get on down to cheers on the boys the game starts at 1.15pm at Wills Oval, Earlwood.

Sunday, the Hornsby Busted Lions are hosting a gala day in place of the cancelled Eastwood Gala Day. Mark Taylor Oval, Waitara. Be there at 12.00 for a 12.30 kickoff. Details in the flyer.

Don’t forget our Friday nights recommence on Friday 4 September with a Family night ahead of Father’s Day. Details to be advised shortly.

The Hornsby Rugby Club's night of nights is on its way! The HRC 2026 Presentation Night will be held at major sponsor Magpies Waitara on Saturday, 26 September with a 6:00pm arrival time for a 6:30pm start.

Pricing is $85 a head and includes a two-course meal, canapés, and a welcome drink.

Dress code is black tie for men and cocktail dress attire for women.
