Brillant Shooting by Wangaratta’s Daryl Hunt

Perfect shooting conditions greeted competitors on the Sunday’s Euroa Clay Target Club monthly competition. Bright sunshine and very little breeze made the target really stand out and Daryl Hunt, one of the top Northeast Zones shooters, certainly enjoyed his day.

Daryl won both Championships on offer and a prize in the handicap event plus shot over 100 targets in succession. The Old Trout opening Championship sponsored by the Alexandra club in memory of a much loved Peter Grant, secretary of that club for over 115 years, went to Daryl Hunt on 46/46.

He followed up with 62/62 to win the Highland Shield Championship, bringing his streak to 106 straight targets. He then won the Back Markers trophy in the Highland Handicap, while Colbinabbin’s Travis Williams claimed the event with an impressive 24/25 from the 23-metre mark.

Congratulations to the Mansfield team won the overall Highland Sheild with a score of 179/200. This an annual event shot between Euroa, Alexandra and Euroa combining the two Highland Shield event scores.

Weather Suitable for Ducks Greets Shooters on Sunday

The weather bureau predicted rain on Sunday, and it certainly rained on the competitors who turned up at the Euroa Clay Target Club’s monthly shoot on Sunday. Just 3 squads entered the events held and it was Euroa’s Andrew Jacotine and Scott Towers who dominated proceedings. Andrew won the first two championship events being the Boho Single Barrel and the Keith McKendrick Memorial Point Score. Sponsored by Paul McKendrick, the Point Score is in memory of his father and long time coach of the club. Hence the name “Coach”.

Scott Towers turned the tables in the Continental Championship defeating Andrew in the resulting shoot-off after both shot a creditable 24/25 in the qualifying round. The Euroa members certainly appreciated the visiting competitors who braved the conditions.

Excellent Shooting in the Don Barns Memorial Championship

Despite the difficult weather conditions being rather cold and very dull light, we saw some excellent shooting in both Championship events. The Point Score Championship, an annual memorial event in memory of a great clubman, Don Barns, saw Euroa’s Andrew Jacotine score a creditable 145/150 to win the event outright from Alexandra’s Fred Heinze 2 points behind.

The Double Barral Championship again saw good scores with some 5 competitors scoring the required 30/30 to qualify for the final shoot-off. Wangaratta shooter Keith Willett emerged the winner scoring a further 25 straight from St James’s Stephen Murphy, just one target behind.

Thanks to the Corsivia High Domes, we had many more smiles this month, next month should see our delivery of Green Dreams arrive.

Welcome Sponsorship from Benalla Gun Club
Much welcome sponsorship from the Benalla Gun Club guaranteed a successful competition shoot at the Euroa Clay Target Club’s June monthly shoot on Sunday.
The Benalla club went into recess several years ago and to keep their name alive, the Euroa club has conducted an annual winter championship event in honour.
Benalla also sponsored the prizes for the day and the winners certainly appreciated the meat trays and cartridges on offer.

Star of the day was undoubtably Chris Milthorpe from the Wangaratta club who won the Point Score Championship outright by 4 points from St James’s Stephen Murphy. He then backed it up with a second in the Single Barrel plus the Overall High Gun for the day with scoring a creditable 114/125. Also on the winning list were Euroa’s own John Foulkes who took out the overall Double Barrel Championship and Travis Williams from Colbinabbin who managed the only possible score for the with 25/25 for an outright win in the Single Barrel.

Perfect shooting conditions for Bushranger Championship
For once the weather gods served up a lovely sunny day for Euroa Clay target Club’s annual Bushranger Double Barrel Championship on Sunday. Six squads entered the days events and it seemed all set for a great day. But no. The Gremlins struck with one of the target throwing machines deciding it wasn’t going to work causing quite a deal of working around finishing a full days shooting on just one trap. With the help and understanding of all present, we still managed to finish the program before dark only having to reduce the number of qualifying targets in the last event

The Bushranger double barrel championship saw 4 shooters score the possible 25/25 and the resulting shoot-off saw veteran Fred Heinze emerge the winner from Euroa’s Tony Rohrlach. The second championship, the Point Score didn’t require a shoot-off as Mathoura’s Scott MacKenzie scored 72/75 to win this event outright from junior shooter Mitchell Wilson on 70/75. Mitchell is a very promiosing junior shooter from the Kerang Club. Finally the handicap event was taken out in fine style by Geoff McClure who is a regular competitor from Alexandra on16/17 outlasting Manfield’s Michael Engel.
