Two flags came home to Victoria Point yesterday.

Sixty seven to one. In a grand final. Our U15 Girls Div 2 finished minor premiers, then went out and conceded a single behind on the biggest day of the year. That is as complete a season as this club has seen.

And our U13 Mixed Div 2 did the double. Top of the ladder after fifteen rounds, a semi final win, and then a grand final handled with fifty two points to spare. No fuss, no drama, just week after week of being the best team in the competition and then proving it.

RUNNERS-UP. 👏👏

Our U13 Mixed Div 5 went down to the Alex Hills Bombers. This team is in its first season. Its very first season. They walked into a competition nobody knew them in and walked out playing off for a premiership. What a start.

And the Redland Bombers came up nine points short against Greater Springfield in the last game of the day. Nine points, after a whole season, with the light going. That will sting for a while. It means it mattered.

To both groups, you were two of the four best teams in your divisions all year. Hold your heads up.

AND IT WAS NOT JUST US.

A special mention to our Redland-Victoria Point Sharks Football Club. The Womens team came down to the footy club afterwards to celebrate their finals win with us, and the Colts and Seniors will have been doing the same after their own finals wins. To have juniors and seniors in the same room, on the same day, with that much to celebrate between them, is exactly what this place is meant to look like.

And a big thanks to AFL Queensland SEQ Juniors for an outstanding grand final day. Multiple ovals worth of footy, run start to finish without a hitch, and streamed for everyone who could not make the trip.

Sixty years of Redland Victoria Point. Four grand finals, two premierships, and a senior club celebrating alongside us.

Four grand finals. One venue. One day. Saturday 29 August at South Pine Sporting Complex, Brendale.

First bounce at quarter past ten in the morning. Last siren long after dark. In between, four teams playing for premierships.

Think about how they got here.

The U15 Girls Div 2 have spent this season conceding almost nothing and won a minor premiership doing it. The U13 Mixed Div 5 are in a grand final in their first year of existence. The U13 Mixed Div 2 topped their ladder across fifteen rounds then won a semi to back it up. And the Redland Bombers, our joint side with Alex Hills, close out the day.

Yes, Brendale is a hike. Pack the car, fill the tank, bring the neighbours. This is what we have driven all over South East Queensland for since April.

In our 60th year, four teams get to play for a flag on the one day. Some clubs wait a decade for this.

Six players. Five divisions. U13s through to U17s, boys and girls.

These votes are not handed out by us. They come from umpires, week after week, across every club in the competition. Nobody polls in these unless they have been good all year, not just on the days somebody was watching.

Six names on the board. Congratulations to every one of them, and to the coaches and families who got them there.

You said. We did.

At the end of last season we asked what you thought of your club. 73 of you answered, and plenty of you did not hold back. Fair enough too.

Here is what you told us, and what we did about it.

You said: coaching needed to be more consistent.

Seven coaches completed their Silver Accreditation. Coaches took part in the Enhanced Football Coach Development Course, we secured Coaching Library access, and ran player development sessions plus one-on-one coaching work on Saturday afternoons. More coach selection and development planned for 2027, with roles already advertised.

You said: selection and age groups needed to be fairer.

We went to AFL Queensland for guidance and put policies in place that open up playing-up opportunities while making sure every kid gets as much age-appropriate footy as possible.

You said: fix the fields and the facilities.

Both ovals were top dressed in the off season and started beautifully, then the rain undid a lot of it, oval 2 especially. Drainage is the real fix and it is not cheap, so we have opened joint infrastructure investment talks with AFL Queensland.

Everything else we could do, we did. A new siren and a new U11s scoreboard at the bottom oval. The old cricket storage room cleaned out, opening up more toilets. Donated shade umbrellas at the top oval. A water bubbler on the way, paid for by a sausage sizzle. The uniform shop open three days a week. And a working bee crew who sorted every bit of club gear before Round 1. The one we could not crack was the coffee van, thanks to permit complexities.

You said: keep us in the loop.

Communication was a focus across the whole club this year. We set up groups for every grade across Auskick, Juniors and Youth, so your team's information comes to you instead of getting lost in a club-wide feed. Every team appeared in the schedule and results posts, every round. Through the worst of the wet weather we worked with AFL Queensland to relocate games rather than cancel them. And we live streamed a Preliminary Final with commentary for the families who could not be there.

You said: build the pathway.

A new Transition Program links our U17s to the Colts and QFA Division 3, and our U17 girls to Senior Women's Division 1. Our High Performance Program ran with Cam Bruce, Scott Thompson, Paul Henriksen, Michala May and Acceleration Australia. Seven teams made finals, four reached Grand Finals, two finished minor premiers, one earned promotion to Division 1, and our U11s were runners-up in the Michael Voss Cup. And 27 youth players passed 50, 100 or 150 games, two of them reaching 150.

You said: be one club, and include everyone.

Registrations up 50, and Auskick up another 40 on top, with two more Auskick Play teams. Three U13 mixed teams and another girls team added.

Our U17 Div 4 side ran as a combined program with Alex Hills as the Redland Bombers, which meant not one of those kids missed a season, and they played it here in the Redlands.

Our girls program had a year. Heavy losses early, then something clicked, with wins from Round 5 onwards and finals footy across the program. And our U11 girls, who fronted up under lights every Friday and never dropped their heads, finally got their win in Round 12. Best thing that happened all year.

Our umpiring group nearly doubled, from 11 to 20, which let us put two umpires on the field for as many games as possible. Better decisions for the kids, and proper support for our newer officials. That won us first place in the AFL Queensland 2026 Umpire4Fun Club to League Participation Incentive, ahead of every club in the state, with a 69.2% transition rate against a next best of 45.5%.

Add our first ever All Abilities Program, Girls in Footy Night after two wash outs, a trivia night that drew 100 people and raised over $5,000, and 60 years celebrated with the senior club.

You said: look after the volunteers.

Eight more volunteers on the committee. A dedicated Wellbeing Officer for players and volunteers. Every volunteer registered with a current Blue Card. Team manager training, accredited ground marshals and written guides so nobody gets thrown in cold. That all paid off when we hosted the AFL Queensland Youth Finals at our ground, run by our people. And Bethan Hockins was named Volunteer of the Year for her work on the All Abilities Program.

An incredible FOUR Sharks youth teams are playing in Grand Finals this Saturday, so we've shifted things to Friday so our whole community can both celebrate our juniors, AND also get behind our youth teams on their big day! 🎉

WHAT A DAY AT THE SHARKS 🦈

We hosted semi finals yesterday and the place was electric. Three wins, and with our U15 Girls Div 2 already through, that is four Sharks teams playing off for premierships next weekend.

A hundred and three against an Ormeau outfit who never dropped their heads. A first season team in the Div 5 into a grand final. And the Div 2 minor premiers backing up after two weeks off like they had never been away.

TO OUR U17 GIRLS

Sherwood got the better of us yesterday, 22-40, and the season is done.

Here is what will not be forgotten. That team copped some brutal afternoons early in this season. Then the regrade landed and they turned into one of the best stories we have had. Big wins, week after week, and a group of girls who plainly loved playing football together. They won a final to get to yesterday. They did not get the ending they wanted, but they never once gave the impression of a side going through the motions.

The girls program at this club is in the shape it is in because of teams like this one. Thank you, and we will do your season justice at presentation.
