Two call outs in a day for our Umina SLSC Emergency Call-Out Team🚤
Yesterday our volunteers responded to two separate boating incidents within Broken Bay.
7:15 am: Crews responded to reports of an overturned vessel offshore. Umina based Support Ski, IRB and UAV team searched alongside Ocean Beach SLSC, Central Coast Duty Officers and RWC personnel before the vessel was located near Ettalong Point and safely recovered.
4:00 pm: We were activated again to a vessel in distress near Lion Island. Umina based Support Ski and Ocean Beach SLSC’s IRB assisted those involved before supporting the safe handover of the vessel to NSW Police.
A fantastic effort by our volunteer lifesavers and partner agencies, working together across the water, beach and air to keep our community safe - well beyond the red and yellow flags❤️💛

Last weekend, seven Umina members, Kerry Armstrong-Smith, Mollie Murphy, Lily James, Matilda Lawrence, Bradley Dawson, Cashar Darwin and Kai Darwin, joined members from all 129 Surf Life Saving NSW clubs for a weekend of connection, learning and leadership.
We were especially proud to have Lily, Mollie and Kai presenting across the weekend, sharing their knowledge and experiences with members from across the state.
Our team has returned home inspired, motivated and ready to put new ideas into action for the benefit of our members and community ❤️💛

Congratulations to Umina SLSC Life Member and former Club President Brett Harrod on being appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Brett has dedicated decades of service to Surf Life Saving, leading at club, branch, state and national levels. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as President of Umina SLSC, Central Coast Branch and Surf Life Saving NSW, as well as a Director of Surf Life Saving Australia.
Among his many achievements, Brett secured funding to build eight new Surf Life Saving Clubs across NSW, helped establish state-wide emergency response systems and operating procedures that became national best practice, led the growth of Surf Life Saving NSW’s lifeguard services and commercial training operations, was instrumental in the introduction of the 13SURF rescue call-out service, and helped develop national event venue selection and hosting criteria.
While Brett’s impact has been felt across not just Umina SLSC, but Surf Life Saving Australia, his leadership, vision and commitment have helped shape not only our club, but the future of Surf Life Saving nationwide.
This recognition is a fitting tribute to an extraordinary contribution to Surf Life Saving and the wider community. We are incredibly proud to celebrate one of Umina’s own and congratulate Brett on this well-deserved honour.
Congratulations Brett.
