ROUND 17 - MATCHDAY REPORT ⚽️

SENIOR WOMEN – 0-0 DRAW
A frustrating 0–0 draw away from home against Tyers.

We had a substantial amount of possession throughout the game and created chance after chance, but just couldn’t find a way through Tyers’ deep defensive and midfield lines. Their goalkeeper also produced some outstanding saves to keep us at bay.

It was a game where the result certainly didn’t reflect the amount of football we played or the opportunities we created, in a display that most in attendance aren’t used to seeing from this group.

While we would have liked all three points, we now turn our attention to the Cup. On the horizon is a meeting with the only team we haven’t taken points from this season, Fortuna.

As our final game of the home and away season, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of our parents, sponsors and supporters who have backed this team throughout the season.

Finishing 4th in a highly competitive league is nothing to be embarrassed about. The work this group has put in, the development they have shown and the standards they have set throughout the season deserve plenty of recognition.

But this is now the baseline we expect from ourselves.

We’ll enjoy what we’ve achieved, but our focus now turns to the Cup and then to building on this season next year. The goal is to take another step forward and continue raising the standard.

SENIOR MEN – 2-2 DRAW
Traralgon City Senior Men Battle to 2-2 Draw Against Bairnsdale Eagles

Traralgon City Senior Men made the trip to Bairnsdale to face the Eagles, with the squad shuffled due to several regular starters being unavailable.

City created the first real chance of an open, end-to-end contest but were unable to capitalise. They were made to rue the missed opportunity when the Eagles took advantage of their own chance to open the scoring.

City continued to play direct football and created several opportunities, but were unable to find the finishing touch. That changed later in the first half when Trent produced a clinical finish to bring City level. The teams went into the break locked at 1-1.

The Eagles came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and regained the lead with an early goal. Once again, City were forced to chase the game.

City responded with another well-worked attack, as Prince Jacky sneaked in at the back post to finish from a pinpoint assist by Muzz. Muzz has continued to show his versatility over the past two games, contributing to three goal involvements during that period.

City were dealt another blow when Lucas Cuddy was forced from the field with an injury early in the second half. Young gun Levi Lynch stepped up to make a valuable contribution, gaining important minutes with the senior group.

Despite both sides creating further opportunities, neither could find a winner, with the final score finishing 2-2.

Best on Ground: Neave, Trent and Flynn.

Overall, City created plenty of chances and showed plenty of attacking intent in another entertaining, end-to-end contest. While there were opportunities to take all three points, the squad can take plenty of positives from the performance.

City now turns its attention to the cup competition as preparations begin for the next challenge.

RESERVES - 1-1 DRAW
The Reserves’ starting lineup saw some adjustments, with a few key players unavailable such as Lyndon Nikea and Lucas Cuddy, due to their call-up to the senior squad. Following a somewhat lengthy journey to Bairnsdale, the team began the match with a reasonable level of effort.

They managed to establish some control during the early stages, engaging in a series of physical contests across the field. This period of play eventually led to them securing a goal approximately thirty minutes into the first half. First half standout performances were Dennis Ishermans and Jack Lynch.

As the second half commenced, it became evident that the team was contending with the combined effects of limited substitutes on the bench and the prevailing heat, which gradually contributed to a noticeable decrease in the pace of the game. Despite creating several opportunities that, regrettably, did not result in further goals, Bairnsdale was able to capitalize on a moment late in the second half, eventually getting past best on ground, Goalkeeper Reese Watson, ultimately leveling the score. The match concluded in a draw, with the Reserves finishing their season with a 1-1 result.
