The first night of the summer season was perfect for sprinters… and throwers… and yes, everyone else! The wind gauge registered zero for the 60m heats, and 30 minutes later it was still zero for the 200m.
36 competitors, 92 entries, 10-12 non-competing volunteers, and lots of competitors helped out as well.

Yesterday, 19 Achilles Adelaide athletes supported by 41 Guides competed in the annual City-Bay Fun Run. It was inspiring to watch these athletes as they passed me on the course to Glenelg. The following article, photos and video clips were provided by SAMA member Megan Inge who, supported by another member Susan Wilson, ran the 12k course blindfolded to focus attention on the challenges faced by Achilles athletes in their attempt to enjoy experiences enjoyed by less disadvantaged athletes. I, personally, support their cause.

From Megan:
It was an experience to remember forever at the City to Bay!
Running the City to Bay blindfolded was a unique experience, and the vibe out there was incredible.
A huge thank you to my beautiful bestie Susan, who guided me the whole way and kept me safe. Putting your complete trust in someone while running 12 km is quite an experience — and I couldn't have asked for a better person beside me.
But today was really about our Achilles athletes. I was so proud to see them out there running, challenging themselves and being part of such a fantastic event. Lizzie Eastham and I ran 6km together, which was my favourite part!
I also had lots of people asking me about Masters Athletics along the way, which was wonderful because that's exactly what we're trying to achieve — creating more opportunities for our athletes to participate, compete and experience events like this.

Our next big goal is getting our Achilles athletes to the **Australian Masters Athletics Championships in Perth next April**.
If you can help us get there, we'd be incredibly grateful. Donations will help support our athletes and their guides to travel to Perth and take part in the Championships. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us today, donated, cheered us on or caught up for a chat our our Achilles Adelaide tent after the run/walk - It really was a very special morning.

(Copied from Australian Masters Athletics Facebook)

WORLD CHAMPIONS. WORLD RECORD HOLDERS. 🥇🌏
What started as an idea at the Australian Masters Athletics Nationals in Canberra became an unforgettable moment in Daegu for Susan Turner, Julie Forster, Sukie Southern and Sally Stagles.

🏆 W65 4x100m Relay – GOLD
⏱️ 56.88 seconds
🌏 WORLD RECORD
🏆 WMA Championship Record
🦘 Australian Record
And they didn’t just break the previous World Record – they smashed it by more than THREE SECONDS! 🔥

The team stayed in touch after Nationals, with Julie and Sukie even finding opportunities to practise together before Daegu. When race day arrived, they carefully considered everyone’s strengths to decide the best running order.
Then it was time to deliver. 💚💛
💬 Sally: “There is no better feeling than being top of the world! The comradeship of our squad and the team in general was ecstatic.”
For Sukie, who only began track two seasons ago, this was her first World Championships and her first track Worlds medal became a GOLD and WORLD RECORD!
For Sue, the experience reinforced the importance of staying calm, trusting the work and enjoying the moment.
And Julie, who also won individual 100m and 200m gold with Australian Records, will never forget the celebration afterwards, particularly the joy shared with the Chinese team despite the language barrier. 🌏❤️

All four spoke about the incredible camaraderie, support and friendships that make Masters Athletics so special. And perhaps there was one other secret behind their success… 👀
🧸 Sally’s lucky mascots! The team is pretty sure they played a key role in that World Record! 😂

From an idea in Canberra to standing together in Daegu as WORLD CHAMPIONS AND WORLD RECORD HOLDERS.

🥇 Susan Turner
🥇 Julie Forster
🥇 Sukie Southern
🥇 Sally Stagles

56.88 – a moment these four Aussie women will never forget! 🌏👏

💚💛 A BIG shout-out to our amazing Australian Team Managers! 💛💚

Behind every successful Australian team at the World Masters Athletics Championships are some incredibly hard-working people making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible!

A huge thank you to Lisa Attenborough (SA), Jayne Hardy (ACT) and Stephen McGugan (NT), our Australian Team Managers. From answering endless questions and sharing important information, to sorting out the unexpected, supporting athletes and being there when someone needed a helping hand. You were always working away behind the scenes. 🙌

And an extra special mention to Jayne, who balanced her Team Manager responsibilities while also stepping into the competition herself and taking part in the throws events! 🥏💪 Talk about multitasking!

Managing a team this size across a busy World Championships is certainly no small job. There are long days, early starts, constant questions and plenty of “Where do I find…?” moments! 😄

Thank you Lisa, Jayne and Stephen for your patience, encouragement, hard work and commitment to the Australian team throughout the Championships. 🇦🇺

We might see the athletes out on the track and field, but there is an enormous amount happening behind the scenes and we are very grateful to have had you three looking after Team Australia! 💚💛

THANK YOU, TEAM MANAGERS!👏
