FROM FIFTH PLACE TO PREMIERS β AND IT ALL CAME DOWN TO ONE FINAL BOWL
If anyone ever tells you a bowls season is over before the last bowl is delivered, tell them the story of Tewantin-Noosa Division 3 in 2026.
With just one home-and-away round remaining, Tewantin sat fifth.
Outside the finals.
Season hanging by a thread.
Somehow they found a way to sneak into third place and earn a Preliminary Final berth.
Then they went to Mooloolaba for a Prelim Final
AND THEY DEMOLISHED KAWANA.
Suddenly the side that had been fifth with one round remaining was heading to Coolum to play Waves Caloundra for a Premiership.
And what followed was an absolute classic.

βοΈ NECK AND NECK ALL AFTERNOON
There was nothing between Tewantin and Waves.
Every rink mattered.
Every end mattered.
Every bowl seemed to matter.
And after an afternoon of pressure, the entire season came down to the final end on Rob McAnellyβs rink.
OVERALL SCORES TIED.
One end remaining.
One Premiership on the line.
And it eventually came down to the skips.
Waves were holding one shot.
Up stepped Robyn McAnelly.
Her first bowl trailed the kitty and changed the head.
Her second?
DREW THE SHOT.
But nobody could celebrate yet.
Waves still had one bowl remaining.
One bowl to change everything.
Players watched.
The huge contingent of Tewantin supporters surrounding the Coolum green watched.
The bowl left the opposition skipβs handβ¦
Started its journeyβ¦
Drifted through the holeβ¦
AND MISSED.
For a split second there was silence.
Thenβ¦
THE PLACE ERUPTED.
A mighty roar went up almost in unison from the extraordinary number of Tewantin supporters who had travelled to Coolum.
Players embraced.
Supporters celebrated.
Months of training, selection, wins, losses and uncertainty disappeared in one explosion of emotion.

Thatβs the beauty of this one.
They didnβt dominate the season from start to finish.
They had to fight just to get there.
Fifth with one round remaining.
Sneak into third.
Demolish Kawana in the Preliminary Final.
Go bowl-for-bowl with Waves in the Grand Final.
Scores tied.
Final end.
Opposition holding shot.
Robyn McAnelly with two bowls remaining.
Trail the kitty with the first.
Draw the winner with the second.
Then stand and watch as the final opposition bowl slid harmlessly through the gap.
You couldnβt have scripted it much better.
And judging by the noise that came from the Tewantin faithful at Coolumβ¦
NOBODY WILL BE FORGETTING THAT FINAL BOWL ANY TIME SOON.
