Groper Scam #1.
GUS The Groper Scam.
Whilst they were all GUShing to “save” GUS the Groper, we have finally found out how disGUSting and boGUS the consultation process has been.

Did you know that someone in DPI had removed the 200 character limit on the submission form during the consultation period and all those who were limited to 200 characters were not afforded another chance to submit?

Back in March the form looked like this “If you wish, please provide concise reasoning for your response (limited to 200 characters)”
1 day before submissions closed it looked like this “If you wish, please provide concise reasoning for your response.”

The RFA tested this with a dummy submission before sending in 351 words, or 1625 characters over 22 lines an hour before submission closed!

It is not hard to envisage that the 200 character limit was designed to elicit frustration and stop any sound arguments being received. We have all witnessed this first hand, this is all we have heard to date until the RFA of NSW noticed that this had changed.

When did this change we have asked? Who was advised? Was RFNSW Advisory Council advised?

To change this now is deceitful. This is false and misleading consultation that will skew the results and arguments, once again because of the tricks being played. This is not the first time this 200 character limit has been used, the RFA has been critical of this on prior occasions.
Our question now is will those who have already submitted be afforded the same opportunity that the RFA has had without the 200 character limit?

Anyone with any sense of impartiality would scrap the process and the RFA cannot fathom how this will be reconciled with any sound argument. The RFA cannot understand why this was not announced publicly, or calls for new submissions to be made and full public disclosure instead of limiting the original Facebook Post on the DPI FB page from March 7th and not another word.

The other issue the RFA is struggling to deal with is that there is no provision for NESB or CALD fishers to participate. We cannot find anywhere where DPI has actually encouraged these anglers to participate in the consultation or even offered a translator service, which they have previously done.

We all come from the same fishing tribe, we all have skin in the game when we pay to fish in NSW and yet some of us are being treated differently by DPI. This is wrong on all levels.

For the record the RFA of NSW submission did not delve into that warm and fuzzy groper issue, we fully understand there are no issues from a fisheries management perspective, however we instead were compelled to focus on this deception and how poorly the process has been handled by DPI.

Over turn this rubbish ban and throw out this sham consultation.
